Certainly, the spatial distribution of economic activities is far from uniform in many countries European Union and significant differences at national and at regional level are still persistent. The aim of this study is to investigate and compare regional disparities in member states of European Union and estimate the effect of regional migration flows on convergence of regions. This study focuses on income and employment, these two factors are considered as major determinants of migration and on the contrary, migration can contribute to reducing income and employment disparity between regions. The econometric analysis uses panel data primarily from Eurostat Database.
Research background: Water is a scarce natural resource essential for life and also many economic activities. Scarcity of drinking water is a problem that is ad-dressed at national and international levels. Global water demand continues to rise, but the quantity and quality of water resources is declining in many regions. Recent surveys of the population of the Czech Republic show that the most serious global problems are waste accumulation, water pollution, lack of drinking water and air pollution. Average temperatures continue to rise across Europe due to climate change and water is expected to become increasingly scarce in many areas. An adequate supply of good-quality water is a pre-requisite for economic and social development, and thus it is necessary to learn to save water and better manage our available resources in this area.
Purpose of the article: The purpose of this study was to investigate to what degree environmental problems — especially the issue of drinking water scarcity — have been evaluated in the Czech Republic from 2014 to 2018 and whether the fear of a lack of drinking water has motivated water conservation.
Methods: A regional analysis of water availability in the Czech Republic and the possible causes of water scarcity has been carried out. Subsequently, selected socio-economic factors that could have an impact on the assessment of drinking water scarcity are analyzed using Gamma and Kendall's Tau and logistic regression. The analyzed time period is from 2014 to 2018. Microdata was taken from the Centre for Research of Public Opinion, and selected regional-level statistics from the Czech Statistical Office have been added to this data to supplement it.
Findings & Value added: The perception of drinking water shortages is not only influenced by indicators representing the volume and price of water in each region, but can also be determined by other socio-economic factors such as income, gender, age and education.
Based on findings regarding existing indicators for the measurement of Industry 4.0, the goal of the presented article is to create our own composite indicator and carry out a cluster analysis for EU countries. There is a relatively large amount of academic studies in the area of the measurement of Industry 4.0 that focus on the composite indicators that attempt to capture this phenomenon statistically. At the moment, however, there are no available timelines of these composite indicators. In the empirical section, we have created our own indicator -the "Industry 4.0 relative performance index". This Index was computed using the methodology of the World Economic Forum. Computation of our own composite indicator has made it possible to record the development of Industry 4.0 performance in time and thus evaluate the relative positions of member states. Cluster analysis was carried out for the years 2011 and 2019, and data was extracted from Eurostat and Worldbank statistics. Results of this paper may serve as guidance for future targeting of cohesive EU policy in the field of Industry 4.0 support, which in the future may contribute to strengthening the position of the EU economy as a whole.
In the research of migration, we can encounter the application of multidisciplinary approaches with the use of knowledge from existing theories, which implies the need for statistical reporting. It is not always easy to determine who a migrant is, and studies exploring migration can be dividing up according to many criteria. Contemporary literature contains a whole score of studies dealing with migration, its determinants and impacts on the economy, etc. However, there are very few studies dealing primarily with regional (i.e. internal) migration in comparison to the number of studies analyzing international migration. The goal of this study is to point out problems in reporting migration and to propose a strategy to analyze migration based on multilevel research of migration while making this strategy applicable to internal migration.
The paper deals with the issue of drinking water supply as a factor for changing housing and presents selected results of the implemented questionnaire survey in the Czech Republic from the perspective of Czech inhabitants over the age of 15. The paper presents the particular outputs of project no. TL02000060 entitled "Availability of Drinking Water for Inhabitants of Small Municipalities as an Indicator of the Socioeconomic Development of Society", which was created with the support of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.
