É planta ornamental da família das Gentianaceas, originária da América do Norte, sendo cultivada como flor-de-corte ou em vasos. Sua produção e popularidade têm crescido e pode ser considerada uma das dez mais vendidas no sistema de leilão holandês (Kameoka, 1998).Pode apresentar três cores básicas: azul, rosa e branca (Halevy e Kofranek, 1984 Embora com grande potencial de produção e de mercado no Brasil, o lisianthus é uma planta pouco estudada em condições de clima tropical, diferentemente do que acontece no Japão, onde seu estudo tem sido feito há mais de 30 anos (Corr e Katz, 1997). O conhecimento da nutrição e as adubações recomendadas no Brasil, fatores de alto impacto na produção e na qualidade das hastes florais (Kampf et al., 1990), têm se apoiado, geralmente, no empirismo ou em recomendações de outros países, resultando na aplicação de quantidade insuficiente ou excessiva de adubos e, portanto, numa nutrição desbalanceada (Nell et al., 1997). A utilização de curvas de absorção, obtidas nas condições brasileiras, permitirá uma aplicação mais adequada de fertilizantes, de acordo com o estádio fisiológico de máxi-ma absorção, possibilitando a planta adquirir a quantidade total de nutrientes requeridos para sua máxima produção (Pedrosa, 1998). Isso implica em menores perdas de adubo e riscos de toxicidade provocados por concentrações salinas exageradas.Considerando-se as poucas referên-cias sobre o assunto no Brasil, neste trabalho avaliou-se o crescimento, a produção de matéria seca e a absorção de nutrientes pelo lisianthus durante o seu ciclo, na época do ano com maior potencial de produção (verão). MATERIAL E MÉTODOSO experimento foi realizado em estufa comercial da Flora Takeshi Saito em Ibiúna, região de temperaturas amenas e umidade relativa baixa, clima com condições ótimas para o desenvolvimento da cultura. Foi utilizada a cultivar Echo (flores dobradas brancas com bordas azuis), muito apreciada pelo mercado consumidor brasileiro. RESUMOO lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) é uma planta ornamental com grande procura pelo mercado consumidor, mas há poucas informações sobre sua nutrição em condições edafo-climáticas tropicais. Neste trabalho avaliou-se o crescimento e a absorção de nutrientes pelo lisianthus (var. Echo) em estufa comercial. Plântulas de lisianthus foram transplantadas para canteiros aos 60 dias após a semeadura, em outubro de 1999. As amostragens do material vegetal foram feitas aos 8; 22; 36; 50; 64; 78; 92; 106 e 120 dias após o transplantio. O crescimento em altura e a produção de matéria seca da parte aérea foram lentos até os 36 dias e atingiram altura de 90,5 cm e produção de matéria seca de 28,4 g por planta no final do ciclo.
