Introdução: o resfriamento tecidual com fins terapêuticos tem sido referenciado como crioterapia, e seu uso no campo esportivo amplamente difundido. É descrito na literatura que a forma e o local de aplicação podem influenciar o nível de resfriamento. Objetivo: comparar o resfriamento cutâneo obtido pela aplicação de duas modalidades de crioterapia, bolsa de gelo e bolsa de gel. Método: dez voluntários foram submetidos a três procedimentos, com duração de 20 minutos cada: bolsa de gel (GEL), bolsa de gelo (GELO) e exposição à temperatura ambiente (CONTROLE). O resfriamento foi realizado na região anterolateral da perna, e em três dias distintos, sendo a ordem de execução randômica. A temperatura superficial foi mensurada na região anterolateral da perna, com um termômetro infravermelho previamente (PRE) e imediatamente após cada procedimento (POS). Para comparação dos valores da temperatura superficial local das medidas PRE e POS de cada procedimento, foi utilizado Anova, com medidas repetidas (três grupos x duas medidas). Foi adotado o nível de significância de p < 0,05. Resultado: houve diferença significativa da temperatura local entre as medidas PRE e POS, para os procedimentos GEL e GELO (p < 0,05). A comparação da variação da temperatura mostrou maior queda da temperatura na condição GELO, alcançando temperaturas dentro da fixa de resfriamento terapêutica (i.e., < 13 o C). A condição GEL também causou queda significativa da temperatura superficial, quando comparada à condição CONTROLE, no entanto, não alcançou temperaturas dentro da faixa terapêutica. Conclusão: o resfriamento tecidual, por meio de bolsa de gelo é mais eficaz quando comparado à bolsa de gel.
