El presente manuscrito tiene como objetivo determinar el impacto del sistema tributario ecuatoriano en las microempresas de la provincia de Tungurahua, dado que por su estructura las mismas constituyen una fuente importante de empleo y contribución a la economía del país. A partir de ello, la metodología empleada es de carácter mixto, es decir cuali-cuantitativo, donde en primera instancia se hizo un acercamiento a las causas que generan la aparición del fenómeno problemático, así como también se detalló los beneficios concedidos a las microempresas a partir del año 2012 según la Ley de Régimen Tributario Interno. Posterior a ello, se realizó una recolección de datos numéricos de fuentes oficiales como la Superintendencia de Compañías Valores y Seguros y el Servicio de Rentas Internas. En relación al alcance, el estudio se centra en un nivel exploratorio; dado que, toma como punto de partida las relaciones y componentes que interactúan entre los distintos elementos tributarios y las microempresas, además de ello responde a las causas de los eventos suscitados. Asimismo, entre los principales hallazgos se pudo determinar que en los distintos periodos fueron aprobadas diferentes leyes que sirvieron de impulso para el fomento de las microempresas en el país con el objetivo de generar emprendimientos y buscar nuevos mecanismos para el desarrollo de la nación. Sin embargo, a pesar de estas iniciativas dadas por el ejecutivo, en la provincia de Tungurahua se registra un comportamiento diferente en comparación al comportamiento a escala nacional pues se registra una disminución considerable de microempresas especialmente entre los años 2016 y 2017 pasando de 39.446 a 39.338 registrando un porcentaje de variación del -0,3%.
