Objective: To identify disordered eating behaviors and body image dissatisfaction, as well as their relationship to body fat (BF), among male athletes in high risk sports for eating disorders. Methods: One hundred and fifty-six male athletes were divided into the following categories: weightclass sports, sports where leanness improves performance, and sports with aesthetic ideals. BF was assessed and three questionnaires were used: the Eating Attitudes Test; the Bulimic Investigatory Test, Edinburgh; the Body Shape Questionnaire. Results: Disordered eating behaviors and body image dissatisfaction were found in 43 (27.6%) and 23 athletes (14.7%), respectively, and an association was detected between the two variables (p , 0.001). Athletes with and without disordered eating behaviors did not differ in %BF (11.065.2% and 9.864.0%, respectively; p = 0.106). However, athletes with body image dissatisfaction had higher %BF than those who were satisfied (12.665.9% and 9.763.9%, respectively; p = 0.034). There were no differences in BF, frequency of disordered eating behaviors, and body image dissatisfaction between sports categories. Conclusion: Nearly one-quarter of athletes showed disordered eating behaviors, which was associated with body image dissatisfaction. Athletes with higher %BF were more likely to be dissatisfied with body image. There was no difference in eating behavior and body image between athletes from different sports categories.
ABSTRACT
This is a cross-sectional analysis of a follow-up study to examine the perceptions of mothers treated at public health centers, regarding their own diets and the diets of their children aged 2-3. Among the 464 participants, 57% (n = 267) reported perceiving their own diets as unhealthy while 72% (n = 334) perceiving their children's diets as healthy. The mothers' perceptions of their own diets as healthy were associated with less maternal schooling and having received health care from professionals who had received special training (p < 0.05). The mothers' perceptions of their children's diets as healthy were associated with more maternal schooling (p < 0.05). This difference between the mothers' perceptions of their own diets and those of their children reinforce the importance of considering maternal beliefs and attitudes in infant nutritional intervention programs.
Freedom as a subject of study permeates discussions in the psychological sciences, especially in the phenomenological-existential approach. The purpose of this study was to understand how freedom has been studied from this perspective. For this, a systematic review of articles published in the last twenty years in Portuguese, English and Spanish was carried out. The periodical databases CAPES, PePSIC, SciELO and LILACS were consulted. There were found 954 articles that were selected according to criteria of inclusion, duplicity and availability, totaling 29 articles for analysis. Thus, the following variables were considered: year of publication, nationality, area of the journal, area of the authors, theoretical and philosophical base, general topics, form of articulation with Psychology, terms linked to freedom and the way the articles conceptualize freedom. It has been shown that freedom is treated as a fundamental characteristic of the human being in productions based on phenomenological-existential perspective, but with different approaches. The current character of the discussion about freedom was highlighted, with a greater number of productions in the last 10 years, and the predominance of Brazilian articles on the subject.
