Introdução: A oncologia é a área de pesquisa relacionada ao câncer. O estágio mais avançado do câncer pode levar ao estado terminal, que se trata de um momento onde a doença se torna "irrecuperável" para a equipe de enfermagem, caminhando para a morte sem que ninguém consiga fazer algo para mudar seu destino, exceto como vai passar seus momentos finais. Objetivo: Analisar as evidências científicas relacionadas às intervenções do enfermeiro frente a pacientes oncológicos durante a fase terminal. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa. Foram categorizados artigos científicos de acesso livre e publicados em revistas científicas entre 2013 até 2021. Ao final das etapas de avaliação, selecionamos 7 artigos que viabilizaram a execução deste estudo. Resultados e discussão: Foram identificadas três principais informações referente ao trabalho do enfermeiro para cuidados paliativos, que são: importância da comunicação da enfermagem no cuidado ao paciente paliativo; os procedimentos de atenção farmacológica e não farmacológica que são realizados pelos enfermeiros; e as principais dificuldades profissionais que os enfermeiros passam no cuidado dos pacientes. Conclusão: A comunicação é a base do trabalho do enfermeiro frente aos cuidados paliativos. Os usos dos tratamentos visam a diminuição dos sintomas e dores do paciente, aumentando sua qualidade de vida durante seus momentos finais. E dentre os desafios destaca-se a sobrecarga de serviço, a falta de recursos e protocolos para realizar cuidados paliativos e ainda a possibilidade de sofrer os impactos dos sentimentos negativos que o paciente e a família possuem naquele momento.
