O objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar a serapilheira acumulada e suas diferentes frações em Floresta Estacional Subtropical primária (FP) e secundária (FS) na região central do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Em cada floresta foram demarcadas três parcelas de 10 m x 10 m, onde foram coletadas 24 amostras de serapilheira (8 amostras por parcela), com auxílio de uma moldura de 25 cm x 25 cm. As amostras de serapilheira foram separadas em três frações (folhas, galhos e miscelânea) e secas em estufa para posterior pesagem. A serapilheira total acumulada e as frações folha, galho e miscelânia foram maiores em FP. A fração miscelânea foi predominante na serapilheira acumulada em FP e FS. Os resultados ressaltam a importância da conservação das florestas secundárias e das poucas áreas de florestas primárias no Rio Grande do Sul.
