An esterification of the CÀ H bond of aldehydes promoted by oxidovanadium(IV) sulfate, V IV OSO 4 , is reported. The process is mediated by visible-light, is carried out at room temperature, in absence of additives and using H 2 O 2 as a benign oxidant. VOSO 4 is a commercially available, earthabundant metal (EAM s ) salt, that does not require to be prepared. This report opens intriguing perspectives for the extended application of vanadium salts toward halogenation processes as well as for CÀ H activations and gives a contribution in the field of earth-abundant metals based-catalysis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
