A nocardiose é uma doença infecciosa que pode ocorrer de forma aguda ou crônica com características piogranulomatosas, podendo acometer o animal de forma sistêmica, sendo considerada rara em felinos. A infecção ocorre através do contato de feridas com o agente Nocardia spp. que se encontra em solo, água, madeira e outros locais favoráveis ao seu crescimento e contaminação. A doença pode gerar formação de fístulas, abscessos de forma localizada ou disseminada e apresentar secreção serossanguinolenta. Assim, o objetivo desse artigo é relatar um caso de nocardiose em um felino. O animal foi atendido em uma clínica veterinária privada de Lagarto/SE, tinha 3 anos de idade, sem raça definida (SRD), apresentando abscessos na região rostral, no abdômen, nos membros torácicos e membros pélvicos. O exame histopatológico diagnosticou nocardiose e o animal passou por tratamento farmacológico juntamente com cirurgia reconstrutiva. No entanto, o paciente foi a óbito apresentando ascite, anorexia e do baixo estado nutricional quando retornou à clínica. O tutor não autorizou a necropsia para elucidar a causa do óbito.
A Mielomalácia Hemorrágica Progressiva (MHP) é uma doença causada por uma lesão medular que leva a necrose da área da medula espinhal acometida, pode ocorrer de forma focal ou de forma ascendente e descendente. Após a lesão, são observados sinais clínicos neurológicos nos animais e a progressão da doença é rápida. Todas as raças de cães podem apresentar a MHP, no entanto, shih-tzu e poodle são as mais prevalentes atualmente. Para o diagnóstico é necessária uma avaliação clínica e neurológica, além de exames complementares específicos como a ressonância magnética. Ainda não existe um protocolo de tratamento clínico para a doença, sendo uma das alternativas o tratamento cirúrgico ou a eutanásia, quando ocorre uma gravidade nos sinais clínicos, o prognóstico da MHP, de maneira geral, é ruim. O objetivo deste trabalho foi relatar o caso de um cão, da raça Shih-tzu, que após MHP foi tratado com estabilização cirúrgica. Logo após o procedimento cirúrgico o animal apresentou quadro clínico estável, normodipsia e normofagia.
O objetivo deste artigo é relatar o caso de uma cadela de 9 anos e 3 meses com Diabetes Mellitus, sem raça definida (SRD), seus sinais clínicos e exames complementares que chegou em uma clínica privada na cidade de Lagarto-SE com quadro de cetoacidose e realizou o uso do FreeStyle Libre® para avaliar a glicemia durante o tratamento. A Diabetes Mellitus é uma das endocrinopatias mais frequentes e caracterizada pelo aumento do nível de glicose no sangue, causada por problemas na secreção de insulina ou na ação desse hormônio, sendo de alta importância na medicina veterinária podendo ocasionar alterações principalmente nos carboidratos e proteínas destes animais. Os sinais clínicos dessa doença estão relacionados à polidipsia, polifagia e poliúria, além de outros tipos de complicações como a doença vascular, pancreatite, cetoacidose, caquexia e catarata, e caso não seja tratada pode levar o animal a óbito. O diagnóstico é definido através da avaliação da glicemia do paciente, os sinais clínicos e a presença de glicose no exame urinário. O acompanhamento veterinário para correção do quadro apresentado de cetoacidose junto com a utilização do referido aparelho foi eficaz na dosagem da glicemia, a paciente não apresentou adversidades e seu quadro clínico foi estabilizado.
