O tratamento restaurador atraumático reconhecido pela sua abreviatura de (ART) é uma técnica restauradora dental minimamente invasiva que veio para ser utilizada como uma forma de controle da doença cárie. A técnica ART veio como uma forma de tratamento e controle da doença cárie em países subdesenvolvidos, pois os mesmos contavam com mais de 90% das lesões profundas (em dentina) sem serem tratadas por falta de acesso a tratamento odontológico convencional. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste estudo é apresentar a importância de um tratamento menos invasivo, apresentando suas vantagens e desvantagens levando em consideração que o Tratamento Restaurador Atraumático é uma técnica simples e prática para restauração imediata sem o aporte necessário para uma restauração convencional (instrumentos rotatórios, fotopolimerizador e outros), ou seja, utiliza instrumentos manuais e material restaurador de presa química, o ionômero de vidro. Por se tratar de uma técnica minimamente invasiva que tem como premissa preservar a maior parte de tecido dental passível de remineralização. Método: estudo de caráter qualitativo, explicativo e dedutivo a partir revisão bibliográfica, abordando o conhecimento já produzido sobre o tema. As fontes utilizadas para realizar as buscas foram nas bases de dados da SciELO e PubMed. Os critérios de inclusão: conteúdo exclusivo sobre a temática; estar disponível de forma exclusiva na língua portuguesa; gratuito para a comunidade científica geral; estar na curvatura temporal entre 2002 e 2020. Observamos que a técnica se apresenta como tratamento transitório eficaz, que pode ser empregado na maioria dos casos proservando a evolução da degradação dental pela ação cariosa até a restauração definitiva do elemento, como também diminui as chances de submeter o paciente a procedimentos invasivos (exodontia, endodontia, prótese e outros). Passível de aplicação na saúde púbica já inserido na política de saúde bucal do SUS. É imperativo na odontologia vigente que todo profissional conheça essa técnica.
