Further studies of partial hydrogenation of thujic acid by Na‐Hg was made. Acid (I) was obtained by using the boric acid buffered water medium. It was quantitatively isomerized to acid (IV) by the treatment with a weak base. Acid (I) and (IV) were identified as 4,4‐dimethylcyclohepta‐2,6‐diene‐carboxylic acid and 4,4‐dimethylcyclohepta‐1, 6‐diene‐carboxylic acid respectively.
Chamaecin was confirmed to be 4‐isopropylsalicylaldehyde by comparison with the synthetic compound, which was prepared by the oxidation of carvacrol methyl ether with manganese dioxide in 30% sulfuric acid followed by the hydrolysis with alumnium bromide incarbon disulfide solution.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
