The recent outbreak of major economic, environmental and social incidents (e.g. privacy leakage, corruption) has put the blooming airline industry under spotlight. However, scant studies examined the trends and changes of corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices through CSR reporting on the economic, environmental and social dimensions in the aviation industry. To fill the gap, the current study examines the economic, environmental and social themes of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards on CSR communication of the global airlines. Quantitative content analysis is adopted for analyzing and comparing the CSR themes in 105 CSR reports of 21 airlines in major leagues from 2013 to 2017. Our findings indicated a salient growing trend in CSR reporting in the economic dimension while GRI 201-Economic Performance was the most significantly reported sub-topic. Our study has also compared the CSR reporting practices between the APEC based airlines and EU based airlines. The results indicated that focus of CSR reporting was different in the two regions. This study provided a comprehensive understanding of how global airlines communicate their CSR practices and respond to stakeholders' expectations via CSR reporting. This study informs both academics and practitioners about the changing trends of CSR development and reporting in the airline industry worldwide.
There is a growing need for the public to interact with pediatricians through social media in China, and genuineness is a crucial factor contributing to effective communication, but few studies have examined the relationship between genuineness and its effect on public engagement. This study developed a four-dimension framework including self-disclosure, genuine response, functional interactivity, and genuineness in Chinese culture to investigate the effect of genuineness in the communication of Chinese social media influencers in pediatrics on public engagement. Content analysis was employed to examine these dimensions and the related public engagement in 300 social media posts on the largest microblogging site in China. The findings indicate that genuine response was positively associated with the number of comments and positive comments, while negatively related to the number of shares. Functional interactivity made the site more appealing, resulting in likes and shares. Genuineness in Chinese culture was reflected in engagement through sharing posts by the public. This study is the first to develop an integrated framework to measure genuineness in online health communication and contributes to the understanding of the effect of genuineness on Chinese public engagement in social media.
This study investigates the influence of a CEO's level of education on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of listed firms in China. We find a significant and positive impact of the CEO's level of education on the CSR of a firm, one level promotion of CEOs' education will increase 0.1630 CSR scores of a firm and increase the probability of CSR disclosure by 10.75%. This finding is robust for the univariable analysis and for sub-items and the forward performance of CSR. Further, we find that the positive relationship between the CEO's level of education and CSR is more pronounced for CEOs who also chair the board, state-owned firms and CEOs who have overseas experience. More concretely, when the CEO is also the chairman, the CEO's level of education has a greater positive effect on CSR than those are not chairman. In state-owned enterprises, the CEO's level of education plays a greater role in the positive promotion of the CSR than non-stated-owned enterprises. When the CEO has studied or worked abroad, the CEO's level of education has a greater positive effect on the CSR than those who do not have overseas experience. Our findings shed light on the role of the CEO's level of education in CSR, and our research on Chinese listed companies enriches the relevant research on CSR in developing countries.
In order to analyze and verify the adaptability of train to track beams with different stiffness, the dynamic response of vertical vehicle-track-bridge with different stiffness track beam is studied. Firstly, according to the actual vehicle-track-bridge coupling system, the corresponding mechanical and kinematic equations are established. The natural vibration characteristics of track beams (bridges) with different stiffness are studied, and the dynamic response caused by current control algorithm is analyzed. Secondly, combined with the 3-D model of vehicle-track-bridge and the actual system, the dynamic simulation and experiment of the coupling system of track beam with different stiffness in the speed range of 60 km/h are carried out. The results show that the vertical first-order natural frequency of track beam decreases with the decrease of track beam stiffness. When the deflection span ratio increases, the suspension gap fluctuation increases, but the increase of deflection span ratio within a certain range will not affect the tracking performance of control current, and the train is still in a relatively stable suspension state. For the track beam, with the decrease of stiffness, the vertical deflection of the track beam increases and the high-frequency vibration energy increases, which has a great impact on the vibration response of the coupling system. The research results of this paper can provide a useful reference for the optimization of suspension system of medium and low speed maglev train, line design, and the formulation of construction standard of maglev vehicle-track-bridge system. In addition, the research results of this paper can provide a theoretical basis for reducing the construction cost of track beam.
