Este trabajo muestra los resultados derivados de un proyecto enfocado a mejorar la capacidad de empoderamiento socioeconómico de las mujeres de la comunidad rural de Yugsiloma, Ecuador. Se realizó un estudio de caso de corte biográfico-narrativo. Los resultados muestran como un gran número de barreras son derivadas de situaciones de violencia, expectativas socioculturales, contextos de inseguridad y falta de apoyo e infraestructura en la comunidad, mientras que como factores impulsores destacan principalmente, el fuerte papel productor de las mujeres en las comunidades, junto con la existencia de prácticas comunitarias y colaborativas relacionadas con la cultura andina. Estos resultados muestran la necesidad de visibilizar el “mundo de vida” de las participantes, incluyendo intervenciones socioeducativas con componentes de abordaje etnográfico, psicoeducativo, comunitario y sociocultural para potenciar el empoderamiento socioeconómico de las participantes en la comunidad.
