The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships of perceived basic psychological needs, intrinsic motivation and esteem, and life satisfaction in womens' fitness training. The sample consisted of 259 women practicing fitness classes, aged between 18 and 58 years. Using structural equation analysis, perceived basic psychological needs positively predicted intrinsic motivation, positively influencing esteemand satisfaction with lifetime. The predictive model exposed the importance of promoting satisfaction of autonomy, competence and social relationships for improved self-esteem. Consequently, greater satisfaction with the women's' lives towards obtaining positive effects from practicing fitness classes were found, although necessary experimental studies that show a cause and effect relationship between these variables are needed.
The aim of this study was to test the predictive power of dispositional orientations, general self-efficacy and self-determined motivation on fun and boredom in physical education classes, with a sample of 459 adolescents between 13 and 18 with a mean age of 15 years (SD = 0.88). The adolescents responded to four Likert scales: Perceptions of Success Questionnaire, General Self-Efficacy Scale, Sport Motivation Scale and Intrinsic Satisfaction Questionnaire in Sport. The results showed the structural regression model showed that task orientation and general self-efficacy positively predicted self-determined motivation and this in turn positively predicted more fun and less boredom in physical education classes. Consequently, the promotion of an educational task-oriented environment where learners perceive their progress and make them feel more competent, will allow them to overcome the intrinsically motivated tasks, and therefore they will have more fun. Pedagogical implications for less boredom and more fun in physical education classes are discussed.
The evidence collected in the area of physical education indicates the need to continue to delve into the relationships and models that satisfy the basic psychological needs of the students and their consequences, in order to promote a high rate of physical activity. The aim of this study was to test the relationship between autonomy support, basic psychological needs and self-determined motivation with respect to enjoyment, intention towards practice and habitual physical activity. A sample of 717 students, aged between 13 and 19 years old was used. A longitudinal design was carried out with two measurement time points. The results indicated positive relationships for all model variables between the two measurement times. The results obtained are discussed with respect to the use of an interpersonal style to support autonomy in the academic context of physical education classes for the promotion of greater commitment and adherence to physical activity.
