IntroducciónLa anestesia epidural se ha convertido en una práctica común para el manejo del dolor durante el parto. Esta modalidad ha demostrado ser un método seguro y eficaz de la anestesia para el parto vaginal y la cesárea, lo que permite la participación de la madre en el trabajo de parto. Las complicaciones más comunes de este procedimiento incluyen la falta de una adecuada anestesia, cefalea pospunción dural, compresión de raíz nerviosa, enfisema subcutáneo o embolia de aire venosa 1 .Durante la colocación del catéter epidural, la localización apropiada del espacio epidural se logra por el avance de una aguja hasta que se encuentra la «pérdida de resistencia» y se inyecta aire o solución salina en el espacio epidural.
