Nitration of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Using a SupportedCatalyst.-The nitration catalyst is prepared by soaking silica gel in sulfuric acid, filtering the silica gel, and drying it at room temperature for 5 hours and at 130 • C for 24 hours. Although the catalyst is hygroscopic, it retains its activity for a long time when it is protected from atmospheric moisture. -(SMITH, AMY C.; NARVAEZ, LORENA D.; AKINS, BRIDGET G.; LANGFORD, MOSES M.; GARY, THOMAS; GEISLER, VICTORIA J.; KHAN, FAROOQ A.; Synth.
