Los humedales son ecosistemas que representan valiosos refugios de biodiversidad en áreas urbanas y ofrecen innumerables servicios a los ciudadanos. Sin embargo, han sido dramáticamente transformados a través del tiempo, principalmente por procesos de urbanización. Se presenta una propuesta de estructura metodológica que aborda la restauración ecológica participativa en humedales de Bogotá D.C. en cuatro etapas y tres ejes de actuación: gestión social, educación ambiental y estrategias de restauración. De esta forma se consolidó una red con 596 integrantes de cinco grupos de interés, siendo la categoría comunitaria la de mayor participación. Se clasificaron las coberturas así: el 56,5 % de la superficie de los humedales correspondió a vegetación acuática, el 3 % a infraestructura y el 40,5 % a vegetación terrestre, 20 % de esta intervenida mediante las estrategias de restauración planteadas, que incluyeron 52 especies vegetales de tres gremios ecológicos en siete diseños florísticos en la franja terrestre. El establecimiento y permanencia en el tiempo de los procesos que se adelanten para conservar los humedales en Bogotá D.C. dependerá en gran medida de las estrategias ecológicas planteadas y la voluntad de los entes encargados de su administración.
