Estudios realizados en los últimos años denotan que el uso de probióticos implementados en la dieta animal demuestra un óptimo aumento sobre los parámetros productivos en la producción de animales rumiantes y no rumiantes destinados a satisfacer la alta demanda que se presenta en proteína de origen animal. La implementación de los probióticos en la dieta para animales de producción se perfila como una opción positiva para el productor mejorando indicadores productivos y económicos, puesto que entra a competir con el uso exagerado de antibióticos, lo cual está afectando el rendimiento productivo animal y la utilidad empresarial. En el presente trabajo se recopila información sobre el uso de probióticos como alternativa para optimizar los parámetros zootécnicos con el fin de disminuir pérdidas económicas sin desmejorar el valor nutricional del producto final garantizando al consumidor la entrega de un producto inocuo y de buena calidad.
En la zona tropical de Colombia, la nutrición constituye el factor de mayor influencia en procesos productivos y reproductivos de rumiantes, por lo tanto, el objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de la edad de corte de botón de oro Tithonia diversifolia, (Td) y el grado de maduración de su ensilaje sobre la calidad nutricional y digestibilidad in vivo en ovinos criollos de pelo, como suplemento de una dieta base de king grass (PP) (Pennisetum purpureum). Se realizó una poda de nivelación, luego tres cortes: 45, 60 y 75 días, los ensilajes se mezclaron melaza 25%: ensilaje de Td (ETd) 75%. Para la digestibilidad se emplearon nueve ovinos con peso promedio 30kg ± 5kg, a los que se les suministró PP a voluntad y 400 gramos de materia seca (MS) de ETd. Las dietas y excretas fueron evaluadas en laboratorio de Nutrición. Se usó un diseño completamente al azar, de nueve tratamientos que conciernen a los tres cortes y tres tiempos de maduración del ETd: 30, 45 y 60 días, con tres repeticiones. Cuando fue realizado el trabajo de campo y de laboratorio los valores de la calidad nutricional del ensilaje, fueron en promedio: MS (21,7%), proteína (12%), y contenidos de fibra detergente neutro (FDN) por debajo de 40%. Las digestibilidades aparente de MS (DAMS) fueron superior al 60% con un promedio 68,5% ± 5,5. Referente a la digestibilidad de la proteína cruda (DPC), esta se ve afectada conforme incrementa el tiempo de corte, pero un mayor tiempo de maduración del ETd mantienen o incrementa su digestibilidad, resultando en promedio: 62,3% ± 9,9.
En este documento se destaca la importancia de las especies arbóreas empleadas en la alimentación de animales de interés zootécnico, y cómo las diferentes alternativas de conservación permiten suministrar un alimento de excelente calidad nutricional en periodo de escasez. Como es sabido, la alimentación eficiente es uno de los aspectos más importantes en la producción animal, puesto que de ésta depende no solo el rendimiento zootécnico de los animales, sino también la rentabilidad económica del productor. Para brindar una buena dieta, se deben suministrar alimentos con la cantidad necesaria de nutrientes en las condiciones físicas óptimas para qué los mismos sean utilizados metabólicamente de forma eficiente, y así poder obtener el máximo rendimiento en la producción. El suministro del alimento en forma no convencional permite explorar nuevas alternativas que brinden alimentos de buena calidad. En la búsqueda de fuentes alimenticias de bajo costo en el trópico, se ha incluido la evaluación de follajes arbóreos por su alta disponibilidad; la utilización de harinas de follajes de plantas se ha considerado como opción para la sustitución parcial o total de proteína proveniente principalmente de granos y cereales para la alimentación animal, siendo en la actualidad una de las estrategias de mayor investigación, en donde al facilitar su inclusión en las dietas balanceadas de los animales, se convierte en una alternativa económica que permitirá sustituir en parte el uso de alimento concentrado comercial. Especies arbóreas como el matarratón (Gliricidia sepium), leucaena (Leucaena leucocephala), guacimo (Guazuma ulmifolia), cayeno (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) y morera (Morus alba) son de interés para el productor debido a su potencial de producción (21.93-30.6 ton/ha/MS).
