Los cuidadores primarios informales (CPIs) de niños con Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA) tienen mayor riesgo de padecer una sobrecarga percibida (SCP) elevada en comparación con cuidadores de niños con otro tipo de discapacidad, por lo que conviene comprender los factores asociados a este fenómeno. El presente estudio tuvo el objetivo de analizar la relación entre la SCP y la percepción que tienen los CPIs sobre el grado de independencia de niños con TEA que reciben sus cuidados en el hogar durante la pandemia por la COVID 19. Se realizó un estudio de carácter cuantitativo, analítico observacional y transversal en una muestra por conveniencia de 219 CPIs que respondieron en línea un cuestionario de datos sociodemográficos que incluyó una pregunta para evaluar el nivel de independencia del menor con TEA para realizar actividades cotidianas, además de la Escala de Carga del Cuidador de Zarit (ECCZ). La investigación fue aprobada por un Comité de Ética en Investigación. Los datos se analizaron en el programa SPSS versión 25. Los resultados muestran que menores puntuaciones de independencia percibida en el menor, predicen SCP en el cuidador.
