Tintas anti-incrustantes são aplicadas como sistemas de proteção em superfícies submersas ou semi-submersas a fim de combater o estabelecimento da bioincrustação. Esses biocidas utilizados possuem elevada toxicidade e certa persistência no ambiente, podendo afetar organismos não-alvo. Os biocidas aplicados em sistemas anti-incrustantes têm sido detectados em amostras ambientais em diferentes localidades e estudos recentes identificaram a presença de irgarol e diuron no Complexo Estuarino de São Marcos (CESM - São Luís, MA) em níveis que podem representar risco ao ecossistma. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a toxicidade aguda dos biocidas irgarol e diuron em água salina e salobra para a bactéria bioluminescente Vibrio fischeri e para embriões/larvas da ostra-do-mangue Crassostrea rhizophorae, espécie representante da fauna local. Com base nos valores de CE50(30min) para V. fischeri e CE50(24h) para C. rhizophorae, o irgarol foi o biocida que apresentou maior toxicidade. Além disso, a toxicidade do irgarol foi maior na água salobra (25g/kg), sugerindo maior risco às comunidades estuarinas no período das chuvas, quando há predomínio das águas estuarinas no CESM.
Os estuários com intensa atividade antrópica apresentam diversos grupos de contaminantes, como metais e biocidas que associados, podem ser ainda mais tóxicos do que quando isolados, devido ao efeito combinado dessas misturas. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a toxicidade de soluções salinas contendo misturas de contaminantes ambientais do Complexo Portuário do Itaqui - CPI (Maranhão, Brasil), buscando conhecer o efeito da exposição conjunta de metais (Al, Cu, Mn e Zn) e biocidas anti-incrustantes de reforço (irgarol e diuron) em águas salina e salobra, para os embriões da ostra-do-mangue Crassostrea rhizophorae e para a bactéria bioluminescente Vibrio fischeri. Foram construídas diferentes soluções salinas contendo os biocidas anti-incrustantes em dois níveis de concentração: irgarol - 0,001 e 0,01 mg/L; e diuron - 0,005 e 0,01 mg/L, associados aos metais Al, Cu, Mn e Zn nas diferentes concentrações (médias e máximas) quantificados nas estações chuvosa (água salobra) e estiagem (água salina) com base no valores observados durante o monitoramento anual no CPI. Os ensaios ecotoxicológicos evidenciaram: (i) diferença na sensibilidade às misturas entre os embriões de ostra e a bactéria V. fischeri, (ii) efeito dependente das características sazonais da solução construída (salinidade e concentração de metais) e (iii) efeito combinado da mistura metais-biocidas-salinidade. Os resultados sugerem que a presença dos biocidas anti-incrustantes irgarol e diuron e dos metais Al, Cu, Mn e Zn nas condições locais específicas de cada estação climática podem representar risco para as espécies estuarinas residentes, principalmente no período das chuvas.
