This thesis reports on the gender bias contained in English e-textbook for junior high school students provided by the ministry of education. The study used a framework proposed by Porreca (1984) as guidance. The framework is distinctive because it examines the problem of gender representation contained in textbook. Based on the framework the study focused on gender visibility in text and illustration, gender firstness, occupational role, gender neutral nouns and gender specific nouns, masculine generic construction, and adjectives. The finding reveals that although there is an effort to avoid gender bias, females are still represented traditionally in some categories. When females are portrayed traditionally in the textbook, students develop a stereotype view towards female students.
The problem statement of this research was does the use of animation video improve the vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of animation video improve the vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. The type of the research was a quantitative research with applying quasi- experimental method. The population was the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Baubau as many as 325 students. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling amounted 58 students. The data collection was carried out by using an instrument that was test. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of the application of animation video on the vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. The t-test results show that the probability value (t-count) is 2.295 and sig (2-tailed) is 0.025 which is less than 0.05 so that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (HO) is rejected. It means, there is a significant effect before and after the application of animation video, as well as the average value of pre-test and post-test experimental class 51.55 to 80.76. as well as the control class 55.24 to 70.28.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan motivasi dan prestasi belajar Siswa Kelas X di SMK Muhammadiyah Pakem. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian dilakukan minimal 2 dua siklus, dengan teknik pengumpulan data meliputi teknik observasi, angket, dan tes objektif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa setelah diterapkan model pembelajaran dengan menggunakan tipe TAI (Team Assisted Individualization), motivasi dan prestasi belajar matematika mengalami peningkatan. Hal ini ditunjukan dengan meningkatnya motivasi pada siklus I 69,68% menjadi 74,17% pada siklus II. Adapun rata-rata prestasi belajar matematika siswa dari pra siklus 39,21 meningkat menjadi 59,42 pada siklus I, dan pada siklus II menjadi 69,37. Hal ini berarti bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran tipe TAI (Team Assisted Individualization) dapat meningkatkan motivasi dan prestasi Kelas X di SMK Muhammadiyah Pakem.
