While some limitations cannot be overcome, this meta-analysis suggests that damage to the posterior layer of the rectus sheath may be involved in the development of inguinal hernia after radical prostatectomy. Prophylactic surgery for high risk subjects is advised at the time of radical prostatectomy to minimize the incidence of inguinal hernia.

From its beginning, the measurement of optical rotation (OR) is crucial for the analysis of chiral molecules in many fields. However, the precision measurement of a weak OR signal with conventional setup remains elusive. In this Letter, we experimentally propose a precision method to determine the OR of glucose and fructose based on weak measurements. By using the spin Hall effect of light (SHEL) as a probe, a nonlinear weak measurements model is established that is applicable beyond the Aharonov-Albert-Vaidman (AAV) limit. Due to the high sensitivity of weak measurements amplification with respect to the OR, a tremendous variation of the amplified beam displacement of the SHEL is observed, while the concentration of glucose and fructose is slightly changed.

In this letter, we propose a precision method for phase estimation based on the weak-value amplification (WVA) technique using a monochromatic light source. The anomalous WVA significantly suppresses the technical noise with respect to the intensity difference signal induced by the phase delay when the post-selection procedure comes into play. The phase measured precision of this method is proportional to the weak-value of a polarization operator in the experimental range. Our results compete well with the wide spectrum light phase weak measurements and outperform the standard homodyne phase detection technique.

BackgroundRobot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) has been widely used worldwide, to determine whether RAPN is a safe and effective alternative to open partial nephrectomy (OPN) via the comparison of RANP and OPN.MethodsA comprehensive literature search was performed within the databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase updated on 30 September 2015. Summary data with their corresponding 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a random effects or fixed effects model. Heterogeneity and publication bias were also evaluated.ResultsA total of 16 comparative studies including 3024 cases were used for this meta-analysis. There are no significant differences in the demographic characteristic between the two groups, but the age was lower and the tumor size was smaller for the RAPN group. RAPN had a longer operative time and warm ischemia time but which showed less estimated blood loss, hospital stay, and perioperative complications. No differences existed in the margin status, the change of glomerular filtration rate, transfusion rate, and conversion rate between the two groups. There was no significant publication bias.ConclusionsRAPN offered a lower rate of perioperative complications, less estimated blood loss, and shorter length of hospital stay than OPN, suggesting that RAPN can be an effective alternative to OPN. Well-designed prospective randomized controlled trials will be helpful in validating our findings.

In this Letter, we report a phenomenon of large in-plane-photonic-spin-splitting (IPPSS) in the case of a linear polarized Gaussian light beam reflected from an air-glass interface at the Brewster angle. The IPPSS-induced displacement reaches ∼12.4  μm, which is quite larger than the previously reported value. Particularly, the IPPSS is extremely sensitive (∼70  μm/deg) to the incident polarization. We also find that the direction of the spin accumulation can be switched by adjusting the incident polarization slightly. These findings may have useful applications in spin manipulation and precise polarization metrology.

Growing evidence has indicated that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play crucial roles in multiple biological processes. However, alterations in circRNA profiles during bladder cancer progression and the clinical significance thereof remain unclear.Therefore, high-throughput RNA sequencing was conducted to identify circRNA and mRNA profiles in five pairs of bladder cancer tissues and adjacent noncancerous tissues. A total of 87 differentially expressed circRNAs and 2756 mRNAs were detected in above bladder cancer samples compared with paired noncancerous samples.Functional enrichment analyses, circRNA-microRNA-mRNA, and protein-protein interaction networks revealed that these dysregulated circRNAs were potentially involved in carcinogenesis and evolution of bladder cancer. Subsequently, the differential expression of eight circRNAs was detected by real-time qPCR. Hsa_circ_0003141 and hsa_circ_0008039 were significantly upregulated as well as hsa_circ_0026782, hsa_circ_0077837, hsa_circ_0004826, and hsa_circ_0001946 were significantly downregulated among validation of 70 matched bladder cancer tissues (≥75%).Moreover, hsa_circ_0077837 and hsa_circ_0004826 were also verified as markedly downregulated in four bladder cancer cells (100%). Naturally, hsa_circ_0077837 and hsa_circ_0004826 were also demonstrated using RNase-R+ resistance experiments. In addition, Fisherʹs exact test, Kaplan-Meier plots, Cox regression analyses, and receiver operating characteristic curve was performed to assess their clinical value. Downregulation of hsa_circ_0077837 and hsa_circ_0004826 all was significantly correlated with worse clinicopathological features and poor prognosis of bladder cancer patients. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of them was 0.775 (P < .0001) and 0.790 (P < .0001), respectively. Not surprisingly, in vitro functional experiments also demonstrated that the overexpression of hsa_circ_0077837 and hsa_circ_0004826 significantly weakened the proliferation, migration, and invasion of bladder cancer cells. Overall, hsa_circ_0077837 and 3886 | SHEN Et al hsa_circ_0004826 might act as tumor suppressors in the bladder cancer progression and serve as a potential biomarker for the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of bladder cancer. In this letter, we determine the respective concentrations of glucose and fructose in the mixed chiral solution by simultaneously measuring the optical rotation angle (ORA) and the refractive index change (RIC) with weak measurements. The photonic spin Hall effect (PSHE) serves as a probe in our scheme. The measurement of ORA is based on the high sensitivity of the amplification factor to the polarization state in weak measurements. The measurement of RIC is based on the rapid variation of spin splitting of the PSHE. The measurement precision of the respective concentrations can be achieved to be 0.02 mg/ml. This method can detect traces of enantiomeric impurities and has a potential application in chiral sensing.
