The intense red‐emitting phosphor Na0.5Gd0.5MoO4:Eu3+ with tetragonal structure was prepared by solid‐state reaction and its photoluminescence properties were investigated. Compared with Y2O2S:0.05Eu3+, the obtained Na0.5Gd0.375MoO4:Eu0.1253+ phosphor shows a stronger excitation band near 400 nm as well as enhanced red emissions. The strong red‐emission lines at 616 nm correspond to the forced electric dipole 5D0→7F2 transitions on Eu3+. The chromaticity coordinates of Na0.5Gd0.375MoO4:Eu0.1253+ (x=0.652, y=0.348) are closer to the standard of National Television Standard Committee values (x=0.670, y=0.330) than that of Y2O2S:0.05Eu3+ (x=0.645, y=0.354). The optical properties suggest that Na0.5Gd0.375MoO4:Eu0.1253+ is an efficient red‐emitting phosphor for light‐emitting diode applications.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations –citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
