Se investigó qué factores están asociados a los tipos de trauma obstétrico observados en recién nacidos en el Servicio de Obstetricia del Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo durante el período 2004-2005. Se empleó un diseño retrospectivo, no experimental, de corte transversal y de tipo descriptivo simple para averiguar previamente la incidencia del trauma obstétrico y descriptivo comparativo para estudiar la asociación entre esta variable y los factores considerados; la información relevante de las historias clínicas de cada unidad de análisis (niño y su correspondiente madre) fue recopilada en Fichas de Recolección de Datos y analizada con la prueba exacta de Fisher para establecer la significancia de la asociación entre ambas variables. Se halló que la incidencia global de trauma obstétrico fue de 17,60% y que el caput succedaneum, el cefalohematoma y la fractura de clavícula fueron las lesiones de mayor incidencia con 15,99%, 1,52% y 0,23%, respectivamente. Asimismo, se halló que sólo existe asociación significativa en los siguientes casos: entre la primiparidad y las lesiones antes mencionadas, entre la talla baja y la fractura de clavícula, entre la gran prematuridad y el embarazo múltiple con la no aparición de caput succedaneum, entre la macrocefalia y la fractura de clavícula, entre el parto prolongado y el caput succedaneum, entre el parto vaginal instrumentado con fórceps y el cefalohematoma; fina1mente, entre la maniobra de Kristeller con el caput succedaneum y la fractura de clavícula.
