Some song lyrics may have been banned or rescheduled for their radio and television broadcasts. Those song lyrics were claimed to propagandize negative contents. Recently West Java Broadcasting Commission has regulated the broadcast of 17 western songs for the prejudice of negative contents. Based on semantic analysis of those song lyrics, the authors finally found out that they qualitatively describe lust, profanity, drug and alcohol abuse, etc. through periphrasis, simile, litotes, meiosis, and other speech figures. Clauses were selected to deliver the figures of speech of the lyrics sung by mostly male singers and the male-female duets in pop and r and b music genres.
The current study is aimed to find out the circumlocution especially the kinds and roles of circumlocution used by language learners in their daily interaction. In this research activity, the researcher apply the descriptive qualitative as a research tradition and based on the theory of circumlocution proposed by Arteaga & Llorente (2012). The researcher analyze the gained data with five steps, those were reading the segmented utterances, identifying the utterances, categorizing the utterances that contain circumlocution, tabulating the result of the utterances, and interpreting the findings. In the findings, the researcher found that there are four kinds of circumlocution used by the learners and those were paraphrase, gestures, demonstrate, and switch the code. Paraphrase and gestures are dominant (33,35%), followed by demonstrate (26,68%) and switch the code (6,67%). Alongside the kinds of circumlocution, the researcher also found two roles of circumlocution that were elaborations (15,43%) and confident (26,66%). From the data, the researcher concludes that language learners interact effectively and feel confident by applying paraphrase and gestures.
YouTube has been flooded with contents within a movie genre, mostly the products by junior creators. It is therefore important to appreciate their works to maintain their creativities and innovations. Positive responses to such literary works are also required to improve their quality writing. The current study was aimed at identifying and at the same time construing the implicatures found in each act of the movie entitled “Terlanjur Mencinta” directed by Alfatah Nando. George Yule’s pragmatic theory (1996) was used in relation to implicatures caused by conversational maxims (Grice, 1975) supported by linguistic evidence-based contextual interpretation, namely utterances and stage directions. Findings show that generalized conversational implicatures were identified, namely 12 implicatures in which 42% was due to violation of manner maxim, 33% attributed to that of relation maxim, 17% due to that of quantity maxim, and 8% due to that of quality maxim. In addition, 4 conventional implicatures were found in the monologue. The study concludes that the implicatures can be easily understood through the contexts of situations. It is recommended that future researchers can formulate the ideal proportion and distribution of implicatures in a particular text in terms of quality, employing comparative rhetoric and a special research instrument.
Pandemi Covid-19 selama lebih dari dua tahun itu telah mengubah perilaku di hampir semua lini kehidupan, tak terkecuali dunia pendidikan. Pemerintah sigap dengan pemberlakukan New Normal dalam arti pembudayaan kepatuhan terhadap protocol kesehatan. Dunia pendidikan siap dengan layanan daring di seluruh jenjang pendidikan dengan berbagai plus-minus terkait dengan infrastruktur dan digital literacy. Program pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk menumbuh kembangkan motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris di jenjang pendidikan anak usia dini (TK). Peserta didik dalam program pengabdian ini berjumlah 27 (dua puluh tujuh) orang yang sedang dalam masa Golden Age. Pengabdian dilaksanakan di TK Bhakti-2 Semarang, salah satu PAUD yang berlokasi di di Jalan Sidoluhur Raya no 13, Telogosari, Semarang. Adapun kegiatan pengabdian tersebut berupa pengenalan kosa kata (Common Nouns dan Occupations), yang sesuai dengan kajian awal, merupakan usaha jitu untuk menumbuhkembangkan motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing. Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui penerapan metode pembelajaran dengan teknik belajar sambil bermain. Hal ini sesuai dengan dunia anak. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian menunjukkan adanya respon positif dari peserta didik dan guru kelas dengan tumbuhnya motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris, yang semula dianggap menjadi momok dan sulit. Pada akhirnya mereka berkomitmen untuk lebih mengembangkan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris secara lebih professional melalui konsultasi dengan pihak tim pengabdian di masa mendatang. Covid-19 Pandemic has jeopardized almost all aspects of life, including the world of education. The government�s policy referred to as New Normal has been enacted to force people to comply with health protocol. Educational institutions have provided online modes of learning with both advantages and disadvantages therein, related to infrastructure and digital literacy. This community service program aimed at igniting motivation to learn English within the early educational scheme with total number of 27 students at their Golden Age. The activities were performed at Bhakti Kindergarten-2 located at Jalan Sidoluhur Raya 13, Telogosari, Semarang. The activities included introducing everyday nouns and occupations, which, according to the initial survey, belong to attempts to develop motivation to learn English. Singing songs, games, role-playing, and PowerPoint displays presented with various techniques relevant to children�s world were among dominant activities. The results of this community service program show positive responses among students and the class teacher with the presence of growing motivation to learn English�it, in the past, was considered difficult and frightening. Finally, they are committed to developing English learning more professionally through constant consultation with the team of community services in the future.
