Introducción: La estimación de la edad dental hace referencia a la precisión y valoración de los sucesos que se presentan durante el transcurso de crecimiento y desarrollo los cuales, generalmente, muestran una sucesión constante. Objetivo General: Determinar qué método radiográfico descrito, es el más específico para la valoración de la edad dental, en la ciudad de Cuenca-Ecuador. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal, se analizaron 884 radiografías panorámicas digitales de 5 a 13 años del Centro Radiológico de la Universidad Católica de Cuenca, en el periodo 2016-2018. Resultados: Se encontró que el Método de Demirjian es más exacto para valorar la edad cronológica en niñas. Conclusión: Los resultados de esta investigación permitieron conocer que ambos métodos aplicados ayudan a la precisión en la estimación de la edad dental para el total de la muestra estudiada. Se encontró que no existe asociación estadística entre sexo y edad dental.
Objetivo: Determinar la frecuencia de cepillado dental en adultos en la población de Guayaquil en el año 2021. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio descriptivo transversal actual, sobre la frecuencia del cepillado dental, se obtuvo una muestra de 401 personas mayores de 18 años de Guayaquil. Para la medición se realizó una encuesta que constó de 11 preguntas, se analizó la parroquia, sexo, instrucción y número de veces de cepillado dental. Resultados: Se determinó que se cepillan los dientes 2 veces al día un 49,88% y 0,75% no se cepillan los dientes. Según el sexo existió mayor porcentaje de mujeres 57,11% que de hombres 42,89%, siendo en ambos la frecuencia de cepillado mayoritario de 2 a 3 veces al día. Respecto al grado instrucción, superior universitario tuvieron una mayor cantidad de cepillado diario, y el menor número de cepillado diario fue de instrucción analfabeto, debido a que solo se encuestaron a 2 personas. Las parroquias con mayor cantidad de cepillado fueron Tarqui y Febres Cordero con 49,88%, 2 veces al día y 41,15%. 3 veces al día. En cuanto a la disposición de cepillo dental 54,61 % no tenían cepillo antes de la pandemia en el trabajo o centro de estudio y 45,39 % si lo tenían, diciendo así que la pandemia no influyo en el cepillado dental. Conclusión: El número de cepillado diario mayoritario fué de 2 a 3 veces al día por ende la frecuencia de cepillado dental en la población de Guayaquil en el año 2021 fue de 94,77%.
Se realizó un estudio piloto comparativo con el objetivo de determinar el impacto de las condiciones orales en la calidad de vida de los escolares del sector urbano y rural del Cantón Cañar, Ecuador a través de la aplicación del cuestionario Child OIDP, en el año 2015. Se realizó un Estudio trasversal observacional mismo que evaluó a 37 niños de 11 y 12 años de edad, de dos escuelas del Cantón Cañar que cumplieron con los criterios de selección, las escuelas intervenidas fueron en zona urbana (Luis Roberto Chacón) y rural (Huayrapungo). Los datos fueron recolectados a través de una entrevista personal con cada niño empleando el instrumento Child OIDP versión peruana. Según los resultados obtenidos los principales desempeños afectados fueron el sonreír en un 60%, comer en un 57.1%, socializar en un 54.3%, limpiarse la boca en un 34.3%; los menos afectados fueron erupción diente permanente en un 11.4%, dormir en un 5.7%, estudiar en un 2.9% y no se vio afectado el desempeño de hablar. En conclusión, tanto los niños de la escuela urbana y rural presentaban al menos un impacto que afectaba a un desempeño; siendo el desempeño sonreír el más afectado en la escuela urbana y el desempeño comer en la escuela rural.
