En esta revisión se buscó identificar la evolución del concepto de evaluación fisioterapéutica desde su publicación oficial en la primera versión de la guía de práctica fisioterapéutica en 1999 hasta la fecha y los elementos de la evaluación que enmarcan un factor diferencial en la neurorehabilitación. La recolección de información se realizó identificando en la bibliografía la evaluación como proceso de análisis en referentes internacionales, como paso posterior al examen y un paso previo y clave para la formulación del diagnóstico fisioterapéutico con propuestas que han evolucionado desde tomas de decisión basadas en datos clínicos hasta análisis fenomenológicos del movimiento. La evaluación ocurre al inicio de la atención y continúa a lo largo de todo el episodio de atención para determinar la respuesta individual a las intervenciones y el progreso hacia los logros identificados. El concepto de evaluación se amplía solo ratificando su importancia, pero no se centra en el proceso de la misma. No está reportado en la literatura el proceso explícito de evaluación, de la interpretación que realizan los fisioterapeutas sobre las conclusiones del análisis de los elementos del sistema de movimiento humano, relacionadas especialmente con el elemento modulador y el área de desempeño en neurorehabilitación. La “evaluation” y el “assessment” son sinónimos, la sutil pero importante diferencia está en que la evaluación no se debe quedar en el proceso de juicio, debe avanzar hasta la toma de decisión.En neurorehabilitación la evaluación es un punto de encuentro pero a la vez es el sello diferencial enlas intervenciones interdisciplinarias que permiten un abordaje integral de los pacientes, con énfasisen el aprendizaje motor teniendo en cuenta el contexto del paciente.
