INTRODUÇÃOEm 1972 Ramon B. Perez descreveu em bebês de até 30 semanas um reflexo desencadeado pela diminuição abrupta da iluminação do ambiente. Tal reflexo consistia, segundo esse trabalho, no aumento da abertura palpebral de 77,9% dos indivíduos com idade de 14 a 18 semanas (1) . O autor levanta a hipótese que, assim como nos indivíduos com oftalmopatia de Graves, a retração palpebral induzida pela obscuridade fosse conseqüente à estimulação simpática do músculo de Müller (1) . O trabalho pioneiro de Perez foi puramente qualitativo, não se sabendo, a rigor, qual a magnitude do reflexo palpebral da obscuridade, nem se o mesmo está presente em adultos. Até o momento nenhum outro trabalho adicionou novos dados sobre o tema na literatura nacional e internacional.O objetivo do presente estudo é descrever e analisar o comportamento palpebral após escuridão abrupta em indivíduos normais. A análise deste possível reflexo pode se tornar um instrumento útil para a compreensão da fisiologia do complexo elevador da pálpebra e dos processos envolvidos na retração induzida pela oftalmopatia de Graves.
MÉTODOSForam captadas imagens da fenda palpebral de 71 olhos de 71 indiví-duos, divididos em 3 grupos. Grupo 1: 23 crianças normais com idades entre 2 e 11 meses. Grupo 2: 18 crianças normais com idades entre 22 e 36 meses. Grupo 3: 30 adultos normais com idades entre 19 e 61 anos.As imagens foram captadas por meio de câmera de vídeo digital portátil Efeito da privação de luz no posicionamento da pálpebra superiorObjetivo:A proposta deste estudo é descrever e analisar o comportamento palpebral após escuridão abrupta em indivíduos normais. Métodos: Foram captadas imagens das pálpebras em ambiente claro e após escurecimento total. Os grupos foram crianças com idades entre 2 a 11 meses, 22 a 36 meses e adultos entre 19 e 61 anos. A distância entre o centro pupilar e a margem palpebral superior foi medida nas duas imagens. Resultados: Houve elevação da pálpebra superior após privação de luz em todos os indivíduos, sendo que nas crianças houve maior amplitude.Conclusões: A privação de luz provoca elevação transitória da pálpebra superior em crianças e adultos.
