Objetivo: analisar, na perspectiva de familiares cuidadores,como os Grupos de Terapia Ocupacional em saúde mentalos auxiliam nos cuidados de pessoas com diagnóstico deesquizofrenia. Metodologia: estudo qualitativo descritivo,realizado com a participação de seis familiares cuidadoras,submetidas a intervenções com Grupos de TerapiaOcupacional, planejadas em cinco encontros semanais, comduração de cinquenta minutos, gravadas. As participantestambém responderam um questionário autoaplicável.Os conteúdos foram analisados por meio da análise deconteúdo temática de Laurence Bardin. Resultados: osresultados apontaram que os Grupos de Terapia Ocupacionalauxiliaram no cuidado do familiar com esquizofrenia pelaspossibilidades de trocas de experiências e de compreensãodas situações, contribuições para diferenciação desintomas, não-reforço de comportamentos dependentes ecomprometedores da autonomia, oportunidades de escuta,informações referentes aos transtornos mentais e estratégiaspara enfrentamento de dificuldades. Promoveu, também,o cuidado para as cuidadoras. Conclusão: os Grupos deTerapia Ocupacional impactaram nos cuidados de seusfamiliares, auxiliando na elaboração de estratégias paraenfrentamento de dificuldades, proporcionaram uma maiorpercepção do papel desempenhado no grupo familiar atravésdas ocupações e promoveram o cuidado para elas mesmas.
