La migración de creadores desde otras plataformas y la aparición de nuevas líneas de contenido están diversificando el universo temático de Twitch.tv más allá de su posición hegemónica en el ámbito del gaming. Este artículo explora las potencialidades colaborativas, educativas y creativas de las plataformas de live-streaming a través del análisis de la experiencia de coworking online “Sala de trabajo” lanzada por el canal de Twitch “JaimeAltozano” en plena irrupción de la crisis sanitaria del Covid-19. Una iniciativa que logró generar en tres meses de actividad una suma de 222.172 horas trabajadas por la comunidad participante. Nos aproximamos a este caso de estudio a partir de una metodología de investigación mixta (mixed method research design) que integró un estudio cuantitativo del fenómeno, 67 entrevistas en profundidad a usuarios y técnicas etnográficas de análisis de contenido. Los resultados obtenidos en las tres fases de investigación avalan la utilidad de la experiencia como enclave virtual dedicado a la productividad y ayudan a construir una cartografía del fenómeno en torno a siete conceptos clave: gamificación, sincronicidad, comunidad, participación, libre operabilidad y atmósfera común. Ante el contexto creciente de plataformización de los productos culturales, esta investigación constituye una inmersión efectiva en la realidad mediática de Twitch más allá del universo del videogaming y supone una muestra de las múltiples posibilidades de aporte comunitario y empoderamiento mediático a través del live-streaming.
En los últimos años, y en especial tras la crisis sanitaria del COVID-19, se ha incrementado el consumo de plataformas de vídeo online como alternativa al consumo de medios audiovisuales tradicionales. Este artículo explora la divulgación científica presente en el contexto español de Twitch –plataforma hegemónica de vídeo-streaming–, focalizando en el análisis de contenido de textos audiovisuales generados por influencers de ciencia que cohabitan en Twitch junto a gamers, esports y todo tipo de social media entertainment. Para ello se empleó una orientación metodológica cualitativa –basada en un set de categorías semiótico-discursivas– que se aplicó sobre la producción de una muestra de seis de los divulgadores científicos más representativos de la twitchesfera española. Los resultados despliegan las estrategias discursivas de los textos analizados y visibilizan las particularidades de un tipo de divulgación científica –generada por influencers de ciencia y emitida en streaming– que convive dentro del ecosistema mediático con los medios generalistas y las fuentes oficiales científicas. En concreto, los divulgadores científicos de Twitch apuestan por un formato audiovisual basado en el personality vlog y un discurso caracterizado por una articulación expresiva eminentemente didáctica, la interacción sincrónica con el usuario y el uso de un tono ameno basado en unos códigos comunes compartidos con la comunidad. Pese a tratarse de un tipo de comunicación científica en ciernes y de la condición efímera de sus emisiones, los resultados de este estudio apuntan a la divulgación en Twitch como un vehículo eficiente para captar la atención del público joven hacia contenidos científicos y al compromiso de los creadores estudiados por un discurso basado en la calidad divulgativa y el rigor científico.
En los últimos años han ido emergiendo en YouTube divulgadores independientes de prácticamente la totalidad de campos académicos, culturales y científicos; también conocidos como influencers de ciencia. Paralelamente, las tradicionales instituciones académicas y científicas se han sumado al fenómeno de la divulgación digital lanzando sus propios canales de YouTube, como es el caso de las Unidades de Cultura Científica e Innovación (UCC+i) de la mayoría de universidades españolas. Este artículo profundiza en la divulgación científica desarrollada en YouTube por ambos colectivos y establece un análisis comparativo entre los resultados obtenidos por los influencers de ciencia frente a los canales institucionales. Los resultados revelan que los canales de YouTube que pertenecen a instituciones científicas tienen un alcance y un engagement muy por debajo del que poseen los canales de influencers de ciencia. En cuanto al estilo, los youtubers independientes apuestan por un formato audiovisual más adaptado a la plataforma y por el uso de un tono ameno basado en unos códigos comunes compartidos con la comunidad. Por su parte, los canales de entidades científicas muestran una faceta demasiado institucional y corporativa que seguramente esté lastrando su potencial divulgativo y su capacidad de impacto entre la ciudadanía mediática.

Para ello, se empleó una orientación metodológica cualitativa –basada en un set de categorías discursivas– que se aplicó sobre la producción de una muestra de seis de los divulgadores científicos más representativos de la youtubesfera española. Los resultados despliegan las estrategias discursivas de las piezas analizadas y visibilizan las particularidades de un tipo de divulgación científica –generada por influencers de ciencia– que convive dentro del ecosistema mediático con los medios generalistas y las fuentes oficiales científicas. En concreto, los divulgadores científicos de YouTube apuestan por un formato audiovisual que combina el cuidado formal con la estética youtuber y un tono ameno basado en unos códigos comunes compartidos con la comunidad. Pese a tratarse de un tipo de comunicación científica aún en ciernes, los resultados de este estudio apuntan a la divulgación en YouTube como un vehículo eficiente para captar la atención del público joven hacia la ciencia y al compromiso de los creadores estudiados por un discurso basado en el rigor científico y la información de calidad.
