Las ciudades inteligentes son entornos de desarrollo que permiten mejorar la calidad de vida de sus habitantes y hacer un mejor uso de los recursos naturales, usando Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación. Actualmente a nivel mundial existe un fuerte interés desde esferas gubernamentales, organizaciones sociales y ambientales por la implementación de tecnologías que permitan mejorar el entorno, acercándose a ciudades inteligentes, abordando problemáticas actuales como movilidad inteligente, ambiente inteligente, seguridad y transparencia, entre otras.
Es importante entender que, si bien la solución actual es adaptar soluciones inteligentes a ciudades ya existentes, es conveniente resaltar el diseño de ciudades del futuro, las cuales sean parte del entorno y aprovechen su situación geográfica, que posean aspectos constructivos inteligentes, pensándose desde el inicio en ciudades futuristas y no solo adaptándolas a las necesidades del momento.
La aplicación de la Responsabilidad Social Empresarial (RSE) requiere una mirada holística que integre lo ambiental, social, tecnológico y económico. Lo anterior exige la gestión de indicadores que aseguren rentabilidad en las empresas, desde la sostenibilidad, mediante el aporte en la construcción de un mundo mejor, como respuesta a la situación actual de contaminación del planeta, destrucción de los recursos naturales, pobreza y exclusión social por la que pasa la humanidad.
Hoy más que nunca, se requiere que las empresas actúen y sean líderes en la construcción de desarrollo sostenible con impacto positivo en la sociedad, siendo partícipes del cuidado medio ambiental y la creación de una realidad no solo basada en el desarrollo económico, sino también en el desarrollo humano y equidad social, el cuidado del medio ambiente y los recursos naturales, garantizando para generaciones venideras un futuro mejor.
