A obesidade é considerada uma doença crônica não transmissível e, atualmente é tida como uma pandemia mundial. Segundo dados da Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS), em média 2,8 milhões de pessoas morrem por ano por consequência das complicações do sobrepeso ou obesidade. A obesidade além de favorecer o surgimento de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis, também tem sido associada a um maior risco de infecções, podendo ocasionar uma piora na qualidade de vida dos seres humanos diagnosticados com essa patologia. Nos dias atuais passamos por uma crise de saúde relacionada a pandemia do Coronavírus 2 que ocasiona uma síndrome respiratória aguda grave (SARS-CoV-2), alguns dados demonstram que a obesidade é uma condição que pode favorecer as infecções e piorar o prognóstico dessas doenças. Isso ocorre porque existem diversas alterações no sistema imune decorrentes da obesidade, o que contribui para o desenvolvimento de doenças crônicas e infecciosas, principalmente pela ativação de mecanismos pró-inflamatórios. Assim salientase os riscos que a obesidade oferece a saúde dos indivíduos, sendo necessário promover ações diante da população como meio de prevenção dessa doença, além de enfatizar a importância de novos estudos, que foquem na relação da obesidade com doenças infecciosas.Palavras-chave: Obesidade.
