Sabe-se que o diabetes mellitus é uma doença caracterizada por uma elevada taxa de glicose sanguínea, decorrente da falta de insulina ou incapacidade da insulina em exercer adequadamente seus efeitos nos tecidos alvos. O presente estudo teve como objetivo, por meio de um estudo de caso, avaliar a eficiência de um protocolo de caminhada regular em uma paciente diabética do tipo II sobre as variáveis pressão arterial, massa corporal e controle glicêmico. Além disso, foram avaliados os efeitos do protocolo de caminhada proposto sobre o bem estar da paciente. Os resultados demonstraram efeitos positivos sobre a pressão arterial, mantendo-a regular durante o período investigado, bem como sobre os níveis glicêmicos, diminuindo-o. Em relação à massa corpórea, não foi observada uma diminuição significativa. Segundo a paciente, o protocolo utilizado proporcionou bem estar, satisfação, recreação, além de ter contribuído com a diminuição do sentimento de isolamento social. Contudo, ressalta-se que novos estudos devam ser realizados com o intuito de avaliar de forma mais específica os efeitos, a médio e longo prazos da caminhada regular sob o protocolo proposto.
