Książka, którą oddajemy do rąk czytelników, stanowi pokłosie badań naukowych pracowników Katedry Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej Wydziału Lingwistyki Stosowanej Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego, która w roku bieżącym obchodzi jubileusz dwudziestolecia pracy dydaktycznej.
Borders are lines we see on maps, or checkpoints we cross when we travel by land. Our ancestors travelled by land, but borders meant less and national distinctions did not always provoke war
The main goal of this essay is to reconsider the term „linguistic poetry” and analyze selected examples of its translation. Among them there are translations of poetic texts by Paul Celan and Vielimir Khlebnikow. The phenomenon of linguistic poetry and the problem of its translation are presented not only in connection with linguistic experimentation, but also as an important aspect of the search for an individual voice.
The article is an attempt to reconstruct a trend in literature after 1989 which focuses on restoring local identity and is often referred to as the ‘literature of little homelands’. Various processes occur in this framework, like the reinterpretation of historical phenomena, restoring or creating memory by unlocking areas covered by censorship in the Polish People’s Republic (PRL). The main task of this trend – which should be regarded as temporary – is to raise questions of identity. This stage should be treated as a preparation for future re-evaluation of this issue as it provides a starting point for taking advantage of those opportunities that were given to literature by the regained political freedom.
