ResumeGet article examine quelques manifestations des valeurs matrifocales dans une societe patrilineaire, celles des Haya du nord-ouest de Tanzanie. Dans la premiere partie, 1' article presente une description et une analyse de la performance et la symbolique d'un rituel post-natal pour femmes mariees et sages-femmes, axe sur la theme de la fecondite des femmes et des bananiers. I1 retrace des liens complexes entre ce rituel traditionnel et la position historique et contemporaine de la femme Haya. La deuxieme partie del' article resume une autre ligne de recherche: sur les femmes Haya qui font de la prostitution en ville, et qui retournent au village pour acheter un terrain et y vivre independamment des hommes, comme fermieres, femmes d'affaires et chefs de familles monoparentales. L'article conclut en suggerant que, dans les deux champs de recherches (aupres des femmes mariees et aupres des femmes qui suivent un chemin mo.ins traditionnel) il y a evidence des valeurs matrifocales, bien que la societe Haya (et surtout sa loi coutumiere) reste strictement patrilineaire.
ResumeGet article rend compte d'un ensemble selectionne de decouvertes faites a la suite d'une enquete dans un village, en Tanzanie du nord-ouest en 1987. (District de Muleba, region de Kagera). II compare des donnees entre trente cinq hommes et quinze femmes, chefs de menage et petits proprietaires. La comparaison porte essentiellement sur la taille de la propriete, sur l'activite dans les cultures de rendement, sur l'acces aux apports agricoles, aux conseillers technique et au capital, sur les activites lucratives agricoles et non-agricoles et sur les modes de depenses menageres. Les auteurs concluent que les femmes chefs de menages agricoles sont de maniere evidente desavantagees par une loi coutumiere qui leur interdit d'heriter de terrain, et par le fait qu'elles n'ont pas acces au capital et aux apports agricoles. Neanmoins, les fermieres independantes revelent des qualites d'adaptation admirables, particulierement dans ]'utilisation de l'argent gagne a brasser de la biere pour supplementer le regime menager et compenser le handicap
