identificar la cantidad y calidad del sueño de los pacientes hospitalizados y la relación con la tensión arterial. Con un diseño de estudio descriptivo correlacional, mediante un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia se obtuvo una muestra de 52 pacientes hospitalizados en el hospital general de segundo nivel de atención de Tampico, Tamaulipas. Se aplicó una cédula de datos sociodemográficos y el Instrumento de Índice de Calidad de Sueño de Pittsburgh (ICSP). Los resultados obtenidos reportaron que los pacientes hospitalizados presentan una cantidad de sueño de 6 horas por noche. El 59.6% de los pacientes refieren mala calidad de sueño. De acuerdo con los datos estadísticos la calidad y cantidad de sueño presenta una relación significativa con las horas de despertar (r = .305, p < .05), con el tiempo total que pasa en cama (r = .293, p < .05) y con las horas reales de sueño tiene una afectación sobre la tensión arterial diastólica (r = .235, p < .05), de acuerdo con el ICSP se obtuvo una significancia negativa con la tensión arterial diastólica (r = -.286, p < .05).
