ABSTRACTThis paper was carried out aiming to evaluate the influence of the following processing variables on the properties of OSB: face to core layer ratios of 30-40-30 and 20-60-20 in relation to a single layer; phenol-formaldehyde resin content of 3, 4.5 and 6.0% and addition of 0.5 or 1.0% of wax sizing. The results showed that the boards composed of face to core layer ratios of 20-60-20, presented the better balance in static bending tests, both in the machine and cross-machine directions. The application of 4.5 and 6.0% of resin resulted in better physical and mechanical properties of the OSB. The OSB produced with Eucalyptus grandis, and 4.5 and 6.0% of phenol-formaldehyde resin were in compliance with values of the mechanical properties of the Canadian Standards CSA 0437-0 (1993).
Abstract Effects of density and kind of resin in the properties of OSB of Pinus taeda L.This research was developed with the objective to evaluate the effects of two levels of board density and three kinds of resin in the properties of OSB made from Pinus taeda L. The boards were manufactured with nominal density of 0,65 and 0,90 g/cm³, using phenol-formaldehyde (FF), melamina-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) and phenol-melamina-urea-formaldehyde (PMUF) resins, in amounts of 6% of solid contents. The increase in board density results in better properties of MOE and MOR parallel, internal bond and water absorption, however, the thickness sweeling 24 hours was wronged. Not observed the effects of density and kind of resin in the MOE and MOR perpendicular. The board produced with FF resin showed better results on all of the properties with exception of MOE and MOR perpendicular. The results of MOE and MOR obtained for OSB produced with nominal density of 0,65 and 0,90 g/cm³ and FF, MUF and PMUF resins attends to minimum values required from CSA 0437 (1993). Keywords: OSB; phenol-formaldehyde; phenol-melamina-urea-formaldehyde resin.
This study aimed to verify technical potential of using waste from wood veneers and plywood as a raw material for the production of MDP. The variance analysis of the panels density was carried out. Physical-mechanical properties were evaluated by comparing them with the international standards and by analysis of variance. The averages were subjected to the analysis of covariance, at the level of 5% probability. Finally, Pearson's correlation analysis between properties was performed. The panels produced with "log core" and "veneer clippings" residues showed equivalent averages for physical properties and higher for mechanical properties of internal bond and surface screw withdrawal, when compared the averages of panels produced with commercial particles. Panels produced with "plywood cutting" showed unsatisfactory mechanical properties. It's concluded that the "log core" and "veneer clippings" residues show potential for use as a raw material in the composition of MDP.
