ABSTRACTDue of the growing demand for sustainable energy, waste management and the use of recyclable materials, this study aimed to the development of polymeric composites from recycled polypropylene matrix intending to the use as absorbing solar energy plates. On this polymeric matrix was added as a dispersed phase of a tobacco residue (tobacco powder) using contents of 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% (w/w). Furthermore, was studied the addition of carbon black with the tobacco powder, using contents of 6% and 10% of each dispersed phase. The formulations were mixed in a laboratory homogenizer, grinded in a knifes mill and processed by compression molding at 180°C, obtaining slaps of 400mm by 400mm and thickness of 4mm, which were evaluated in tests of heat absorption, traction, flection, toughness and density. The results indicate potential application in the solar hot water system due to heat absorption results. In addition, the use of the carbon black as dispersed phase has shown a great contribution to the mechanical characteristics of the material. Another important result concerns about the possibility to be using a recycled polymer and an industrial waste generated in large quantities, such as the tobacco powder, in the production of the plates characterizing an environmental gain.
Within this scenario, the objective of this work was to study partially biodegradable polymer composites using thermoplastic starch (TPS) and fungal biomass of the genus Aspergillus sp. and Penicillium sp. To prepare these composites was used as matrix a blend with 20% TPS and 80% polypropylene (PP) by mass. Fungal biomass was used as the dispersed phase in mass fraction of 5%. The main purpose of adding this biomass was the possibility of increased mechanical properties without changing the characteristics of biodegradable material. The composites were cut into test bodies and these were evaluated by tensile, bending and hardness. The results indicate the dependence of the properties of the samples considering the type of
