Com o advento da Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos, a gestão e o gerenciamento de resíduos têm sido vistos como estratégias de competitividade em mudanças climáticas. Nesse sentido, a busca por tecnologias que reduzam emissões baseadas no aproveitamento de gases aliada aos processos de reciclagem, reúso e minimização na geração de resíduos, tem colaborado para investimentos em pesquisas e expansão de fontes alternativas de energias. A partir disso, junto com a crescente produção de resíduos em razão da alta taxa de crescimento populacional aliado ao consumo, faz-se necessária a elaboração de um plano de gerenciamento de resíduos com desenvolvimento sustentável para os municípios. Dessa maneira, o presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a viabilidade econômica do aproveitamento energético de biogás gerado pelo aterro sanitário do Consórcio Intermunicipal do Estado de São Paulo (CIAS), formado pelos municípios: Cajamar, Campo Limpo Paulista, Jundiaí, Louveira, Várzea Paulista e Vinhedo em projeções de 20 anos para diferentes populações. Para projeção da produção de gás foi utilizado o software LandGEM® desenvolvido pela Agência Americana de Proteção Ambiental (US EPA). Nesse estudo, são mostradas as equações de potência de aproveitamento, bem como de energia, produzidas a partir da população total estimada, podendo ser utilizadas para estudos preliminares em outros consórcios.
