Este artigo divulga as primeiras conclusões de uma pesquisa bibliográfica e documental que busca entender, pela ótica da administração, a questão do desenvolvimento sustentável aplicado a unidades de conservação ambiental localizadas dentro ou em torno de áreas rbanas, procurando identificar as partes interessadas ‐ governos, comunidades urbanas, ONGs, empresas e outros stakeholders ‐, suas motivações e as estratégias que aplicam ou que emergem de sua complexa interação. A pesquisa identificou grupos diferentes de stakeholdes – governos, comunidades urbanas, ONGs, companhias, instituições financeiras e outros – interagindo na gestão de projetos de desenvolvimento sustentável para unidades de conservação ambiental e revelou que as estraégias colaborativas são essenciais para garantir o sucesso desses projetos. Estratégias tradicionais, onde somente um órgão governamental atua de modo desintegrado têm sido crescentemente substituídas por estruturas colegiadas. A convivência entre estratégias colaborativas e conflitos parece fazer parte inseparável do modelo conceitual, de caráter exploratório, que se propõe ao final.
