RESUMO-O presente trabalho visa avaliar a argila in natura e após alterações superficiais como adsorvente, quando aplicada no tratamento de efluentes. Para isso, uma amostra de argila coletada no município de Aracruz-ES foi modificada por processos de ativação, funcionalização e tratamento térmico, a fim de melhorar a sua capacidade adsortiva para elementos metálicos e corante de azul de metileno em soluções aquosas. A adsorção dos metais foi avaliada por análise de espectrometria de emissão atômica com plasma acoplado indutivamente (ICP OES) e a adsorção do corante foi verificada por meio de espectrofotômetro UV-Vis. Observaram-se bons resultados de adsorção dos íons metálicos Cromo Cr(VI) e Chumbo Pb(II). A argila in natura demonstrou excelente resultado na remoção do corante e as argilas modificadas, em especial a ativada com Cloreto de Bário (BaCl2). Os resultados revelaram que, de acordo com a espécie química avaliada, a argila in natura ou modificada apresentou potencial para sua utilização como adsorvente.

RESUMO -O dimetil éter, ou DME, utilizado como propelente, é o mais simples dos éteres. Esse, pode ter sua obtenção dada a partir da gaseificação da biomassa, tendo sua aplicação em células a combustível e ainda como substituinte ao metanol, o qual apresenta alta toxicidade. É observado que o DME apresenta uma facilidade de transporte e manipulação, já que apresenta características semelhantes ao GLP. Estudos recentes apontam o potencial de catalisadores a base de Cu, Ce e γ-Al2O3 no processamento do dimetil éter, porém não há literatura abrangente da síntese destes catalisadores pelo método sol-gel, os quais apresentam altas área superficial e dispersão metálica, elevada atividade e resistentes a formação de coque. Portanto, o desenvolvimento de novos catalisadores viabiliza a fabricação de Células a Combustível Autônomas alimentadas a DME, permitindo-se melhoras no setor automotivo, usos residenciais e geração de energia elétrica a partir de uma fonte renovável e limpa. Neste contexto, prepararam-se catalisadores CuO/CeO2/Al2O3 pelos métodos da impregnação úmida e sol-gel, aferindo-se os desempenhos desses catalisadores em um micro reator frente à reação de reforma a vapor do DME, avaliando-os, ainda, por meio de análises físico-químicas. INTRODUÇÃOO desenvolvimento de tecnologias geradoras de energia limpa, à base de hidrogênio, são vistas atualmente como fontes promissoras em relação aos combustíveis fósseis. Porém, a utilização direta de H2 como combustível impõe a dificuldade de armazenamento e distribuição do mesmo. De tal forma, o desenvolvimento de células a combustível autônomas que operem diretamente com combustíveis líquidos (que serão transformados em H2) torna-se bastante atrativo (BALL et al., 2009), permitindo, que células a combustível ganhem destaque para geração de energia elétrica e em usos de aplicações portáteis, como veículos e equipamentos residenciais.De acordo com SANCHES (2009), a produção de hidrogênio pode ser feita por diversos processos: a partir de gás natural, petróleo, hidrocarbonetos, carvão, biomassa e lixo urbano. Uma forma interessante de produção é a partir da reforma a vapor de metanol e do DME.O DME ou éter metílico é utilizado atualmente como propelente em aerossol, para pinturas spray, substâncias químicas, agrícolas e cosméticas. Apresenta semelhanças ao gás liquefeito de petróleo (GLP), e pode ser distribuído e estocado por tecnologias similares às já existentes para o GLP. Industrialmente, o DME pode ser obtido pelo processo de desidratação do metanol, ou ainda a partir do gás natural, via gás de síntese, proporcionando custos de produção não atrelados ao do preço do petróleo. O éter metílico assim como o metanol, mostra-se como uma fonte promissora de obtenção de hidrogênio devido à faixa de temperatura utilizada na reforma (300-400ᵒC) e a distribuição do produto (gás rico em H2).
RESUMO -A utilização de células a combustível alimentados com hidrogênio provenientes de fontes renováveis vem atraindo cada vez mais atenção devido ao consumo deliberado de fontes de energia não renováveis, em conjunto com os problemas ambientais. Como o DME é um combustível líquido rico em hidrogênio, não tóxico, que pode ser obtido de forma renovável e que pode usufruir da já bem desenvolvida linha de distribuição e armazenamento do GLP, sua utilização na reforma a vapor para a produção de H2 tornou-se muito atrativa. Neste trabalho, catalisadores CuO/ZnO/γ-Al2O3, CuO/CeO2/ZnO/γ-Al2O3 e CuO/ CeO2/γ-Al2O3 foram sintetizados pelo método da impregnação. O catalisador cuja composição apresentou melhores resultados também foi sintetizado pelo método sol-gel. Esses materiais foram testados frente a reação de reforma a vapor do DME realizada em microrreator e em diferentes temperaturas (300, 350 e 400°C). O catalisador sol-gel apresentou um resultado bem superior para a produção de H2 quando comparado com os outros materiais, possivelmente devido aos resultados das caracterizações realizadas: a maior área BET, a maior acidez, (necessária para a hidratação do DME em metanol, para que então ocorra a produção de H2) e a maior dispersão observada no resultado do DRX.
