El concepto de comunicación no verbal ha sido estudiado desde numerosas disciplinas: la Etología, la Sociología, la Lingüística, la Psiquiatría y la Psicología del Desarrollo. En concreto, los psicólogos evolutivos: interaccionistas como Vygotsky, cognitivistas como Piaget, e innatistas como Chomsky -a pesar de tener opiniones bastante distantes e incluso contradictorias- han concluido que la comunicación no verbal constituye la génesis del lenguaje. En este trabajo se pretende observar y describir el desarrollo de la comunicación no verbal (mirada y gestos) de infantes de 4 y 6 años y comparar el nivel desarrollo de la comunicación no verbal en estos infantes. Para ello, se ha desarrollado un estudio que sigue una metodología no experimental expost-facto, concretamente comparativo causal, en el que se intenta comprobar si existe una relación causal entre la edad y el desarrollo de la comunicación no verbal (gestos y mirada). En él han participado 40 escolares distribuidos en dos grupos según la edad. La observación ha sido la técnica de recogida de datos utilizada, adaptando con tal fin un sistema de categorías. Los resultados obtenidos revelan que hay diferencias en algunos aspectos de la comunicación no verbal entre infantes de 4 versus 6 años, aunque estas diferencias no llegan a ser estadísticamente significativas. 1 Este trabajo forma parte del estudio tutelado que fue desarrollado por la primera firmante para la obtención del título de Graduada en Educación Infantil mención en Lengua Extranjera (Inglés) por la Universidad Pública de Navarra (Pamplona, España).
