chool nurses can play a valuable role in assess-S ment, referral, management, and treatment monitoring for students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Though researchers and clinicians advocate physician-school collaboration working with ADHD, such collaboration does not always occur and the school nurse's role has been underemphasized. This article presents roadblocks to collaboration, information about the school nurses' beliefs and understanding of ADHD, and recommendations for increased participation of school nurses with physicians, school personnel, and families. The incidence of ADHD is presumed to be threefive per 100' or potentially one child per classroom. Every school system is likely to have students with ADHD, some diagnosed and others undiagnosed, some managed and many mismanaged. School personnel and health care professionals need to increase their collaboration to better coordinate identification and management of these students.
