Na trajetória histórica de ocupação negra da Amazônia, as festas de santos tiveram um papel importante para a formação dos quilombos, propiciando momentos de relaxamento que favoreceram fugas coletivas através de rios e florestas, assim como a organização sociopolítica e reprodução cultural dos grupos negros. Dentre os diversos santos celebrados por tais grupos, São Benedito recebe especial atenção em inúmeros festejos, em toda a calha do Rio Amazonas. Neste artigo são abordadas três festividades seculares realizadas em louvor a esse santo, em três municípios de forte presença negra na região do Baixo Amazonas Paraense: a festa do aiuê, do quilombo Jauari, em Oriximiná; a festa do marambiré, do quilombo Pacoval, em Alenquer; e festa do gambá, da cidade de Almeirim. Propõe-se, a partir dos três contextos etnográficos, discutir a importância das festas na elaboração étnica e territorial das presenças negras na Amazônia.
Os quilombos Matá e Silêncio, localizados no município de Óbidos, Pará, partilham de uma economia de subsistência baseada no roçado e na produção da farinha de mandioca, tornando os dois quilombos semelhantes e próximos. Sendo a farinha de mandioca o pilar de sustentação do quilombo Matá e Silêncio, a mandioca permeia a sobrevivência, a sociabilidade, fortifica os laços afetivos dentro e fora dos núcleos familiares, restabelece as identidades e o sentimento de pertença tanto em relação ao território quilombola, quanto as práticas de trabalho coletivo. A partir das entrevistas fincadas na história oral realizadas nos dois quilombos, este artigo objetiva na compreensão do sentimento de pertença com a roça e com processo de produção da farinha de mandioca a partir do trabalho coletivo chamado de ‘puxirum’ nas referidas comunidades quilombolas.
