We present a novel approach to parameterize a mesh with disk topology to the plane in a shapeWe present also a more general "hybrid" parameterization model which provides a continuous spectrum of possibilities, controlled by a single parameter. The two cases described above lie at the two ends of the spectrum. We generalize our local/global algorithm to compute these parameterizations. The local phase may also be accelerated by parallelizing the independent computations per triangle.
Abstract-We present a novel approach to localization of sensors in a network given a subset of noisy inter-sensor distances. The algorithm is based on "stitching" together local structures by solving an optimization problem requiring the structures to fit together in an "As-Rigid-As-Possible" manner, hence the name ARAP. The local structures consist of reference "patches" and reference triangles, both obtained from inter-sensor distances. We elaborate on the relationship between the ARAP algorithm and other state-of-the-art algorithms, and provide experimental results demonstrating that ARAP is significantly less sensitive to sparse connectivity and measurement noise. We also show how ARAP may be distributed.
As a low-dimensional optical fiber with diameter close to or below the wavelength of light, optical micro/nanofiber (MNF) offers a number of favorable properties for optical sensing, which have been exploited in a variety of sensing applications, including physical, chemical, and biological sensors. In this paper we review the principles and applications of silica, glass, and polymer optical micro/nanofibers for physical and chemical sensing.
A series of novel pH-sensitive gene delivery vectors (POEI 1, 2, and 3) are synthesized through Michael addition from low molecular weight PEI (LMW PEI) via acid-labile ortho ester linkage with terminal acrylates (OEAc) by various feed molar ratios. The obtained POEI 1 and POEI 2 can efficiently condense plasmid DNA into nanoparticles with size range of 200-300 nm and zeta-potentials of about +15 mV while protecting DNA from enzymatic digestion compared with POEI 3. Significantly, ortho ester groups of POEI main-chains can make an instantaneous degradation-response to acidic endosomal pH (≈5.0), resulting in accelerated disruption of polyplexes and intracellular DNA release. MTT assay reveals that all POEIs exhibit much lower cytotoxicity in different cells than branched PEI (25 KDa). As expected, POEI 1 and POEI 2 perform improved gene transfection in vitro, suggesting that such polycations might be promising gene vectors based on overcoming toxicity-efficiency contradiction.
Aspheric non-null testing, as an alternative to the traditional null testing, achieves more flexible measurements. However, figure-error reconstruction in non-null tests has always been difficult due to the presence of retrace error. A novel method with reverse optimization is proposed for aspheric figure-error reconstruction in a non-null interferometer. It is a generalized and effective approach based on system modeling and polynomial fitting. An optimization function is set with polynomial coefficients of the desired figure error as variables and those of the detected experimental wavefront as optimization targets. Through the reverse optimization process with iterative ray tracing, the optimal solutions can be extracted and the desired figure error is reconstructed with a simple fitting procedure. Numerical simulations verifying the high accuracy of the proposed method are presented with error considerations. A set of experiments has also been carried out to demonstrate the validity and repeatability of this method.
