Luonto etiikan lähtökohtanamuistiinpanoja Nils-Aslak Valkeapään (1943-2001 kotitalossa Kiinnostukseni etiikkaa kohtaan on herännyt pohtiessani ympäristö-ja yhteisötaiteen piiriin kuuluvaa taiteellista työskentelyä, jolloin keskeisenä eettisenä kysymyksenä nousee suhde ihmisiin ja luontoon. Tanskalainen taiteilija tarjosi köyhille ugandalaisille yhteisötaiteen nimissä vaihtokauppaa: jos vaihtaa etunimensä taiteilijan nimen mukaiseksi, saa porsaan tai vuohen. Osana teosta taiteilija valokuvasi projektissaan toimivat kyläläiset uuden henkilöllisyystodistuksen kanssa. Yhteisötaiteen eettisyys nousi paljaalla tavalla keskustelun aiheeksi. 1 Vaikka olemme länsimaissa nykytaiteen piirissä tottuneet näkemään taidemuseoissa kaikenlaista taiteen nimissä, myös kuvia lapsista ja nuorista, jotka esittelevät avoimesti elämäänsä taideyleisölle, onnistui köyhien nimeäminen paljastamaan jotain, jota yleisö ei ollut valmis taiteen nimissä näkemään. Taiteilija halusi tehdä taiteilijan vallan näkyväksi, antamalla nimensä köyhille kehitysapuna, taideteoksen kautta. "Tuntuu, että taiteilijan nimi on tärkeämpi kuin hänen työnsä", taiteilija sanoo Helsingin Sanomien haastattelussa. Monet yhteisöt ovat puurtaneet erilaisissa projekteissa taiteilijan nimeen eri puolilla maailmaa. Erityisesti syrjäseudut ja niiden asukkaat ovat taustana tai toimijana yhä uusissa ja uusissa yhteisöja ympäristötaiteen hankkeissa. Keskeisenä taiteen tavoitteena on tällöin elävöittäminen, aktivoiminen ja auttaminen. Tanskalainen taiteilijakin halusi auttaa ja tehdä hyvää. Artikkelin lopuksi taiteilija kysyy, "kuka päättää mikä on hyvää ja mikä pahaa?" Hyvän ja pahan jännitteinen toiminta-akseli on myös suomalaisten yhteisötaiteen pioneerien Lea ja Pakka Kantosen työskentelyä innoittava tematiikka. Kantoset ovat työskennelleet erityisesti alkuperäiskansojen parissa. Pekka Kantosen mukaan taiteeseen kuuluu ihmettely ja hämmennys sekä itsestään selvien asioiden kyseleminen ja esittäminen puhuttelevassa muodossa. 2 Pekka Kantonen kuvailee heidän työskentelyään: "Taidekontekstissa korostuu eri tavalla vuorovaikutus ja kohtaaminen. Me välitämme jotain taidemaailmalle vierasta. Näyttelyissä asetamme itsemme alttiiksi muiden ihmisten moraalisille arvioille ja saamme heidän antamastaan palautteesta uutta ajateltavaa. Vastaanotto on aina ristiriitainen. Aina joku sanoo, miten hienoa työtä teemme nuorten hyväksi, ja aina joku toinen sanoo, että käytämme vain nuoria ja alkuperäiskansoja oman taiteellisen uramme edistämiseen. Jopa yksittäisten kuvien kohdalla kommentit ovat ristiriitaisia. Ihmisillä on hyvin voimakkaat käsitykset siitä, mikä on poliittisesti ja eettisesti oikea tapa esittää ja kuvata toista kulttuuria, erityisesti alkuperäiskansojen kulttuuria." 3 Kun taiteen materiaalia ovat ihmiset ja ympäristöt kysymys hyvästä ja pahasta on erityinen.Tässä artikkelissa tarkastelen etiikkaa, pohdin mitä etiikka tarkoittaa ja mitä haasteita taiteen uudet käytännöt etiikalle asettavat. Tavoitteeksi asetettiin aineellisen ja aineettoman kulttuuriperinnön kerääminen, säilyttäminen ja tutkiminen. Yhdistys kokosi piiriinsä monipuolisen joukon Suomen menneisyydestä kiinnostuneita ihmisiä, sillä muinaismuisto-käsitteen alle mahtuivat niin lorut ja leikit, keskiaikaiset kirkot, henkilöhistori-at, retket sukukansojen pariin kuin Suomen historiaan liittyvät tarinatkin. Toiminta kattoi siten arkeologian, taidehistorian, kansatieteen ja kulttuurihistorian, kuten yhdistyksen nykyinen määritelmä asian muotoilee.
