The Interactive Metronome training appears to facilitate a number of capacities, including attention, motor control, and selected academic skills, in boys with ADHD.
PROBLEMThe hypothesis that the unwed mother who keeps her baby is more emotionally unstable than the unwed mother who gives up her baby has been advanced by several authorscZ. 8 , 10. 11) and has received some support from others(', 4, 7 ) . The need for predicting the decision of the unwed mother regarding the disposition of her baby has been emphasized by Meyer, Jones and Borgatta (7). They have shown its importance to the social agency in the planning of services for the unwed mother, in making any necessary arrangements for the bab , and in effecting considerable savings of time anlmoney. This study attempted to discover if the MMPI could differentiate significantly between unwed mothers who keep their baby and those who place their baby for adoption. METHODA group of 144 expectant unwed mothers resident in a maternity home was administered the MMPI and the SRA Non-verbal Form@) intelligence test. All were white Americans experiencing their first pregnancy. Twenty-six decided to keep their baby (group K) while the remaining 118 Ss placed their baby for adoption. A x2 analysis was performed revealing no significant differences a t the .05 level on the variables of age, education (grade completed), and intelligence. On this basis 26 Ss (group A) were then randomly chosen from the 118 Ss who gave up their baby. An analysis of variance using a Lindquist Type I design@) was emplo ed. All scales of the MMPI were used except tge question (?) scale. Table 1 presents the means and standard deviations for each group. RESULTS A N D DISCUSSIONThe analysis between groups resulted in an P ratio of 1.09, indicating no significant differences a t the .05 level between the groups on any MMPI scales. Analysis between scales resulted in a F ratio of 12.19, significant a t the .001 level.Since differences between scales were found, the scales were subjected to Tukey's procedure for comparing individual means @ ) . This revealed the PD scale to be significantly higher than all other scales a t the .05 level with SC significantl lower than PD but significantly higher than t i e rest of the scales. The resiilts indicated that the MMPI was iinable to distinguish between the two groups of unwed mot hers. Of some interest was the direct, ioii of the dil'fcrciices, with group A showing a tcndency to be higher than group K OII all except the 1) and MF scales.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
