Chemical and oxidizable fractions of soil organic matter under different management systems in an OxisolAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate soil quality from soil organic matter (SOM) chemical and oxidizable fractions in areas with different management systems. The study was carried out in the municipality of Guaira, in the west of the state of the Paraná, Brazil, in areas with different adoption times of the no-tillage system (NT; 6, 14, and 22 years), with succession scheme of soybean (summer) and corn/wheat (winter) crops, besides areas with 12 years under NT -in the same succession scheme -plus four years of Urochloa ruziziensis intercropped with maize (M+U), and with pasture and native forest. The chemical fractions of fulvic acid (FA), humic acid (HA), and humin (HUM) were evaluated, as well as the oxidizable fractions of MOS (F1, F2, F3, and F4), total carbon (TC), and carbon storage (C) in the humic fractions. Total carbon contents increased with the increasing adoption of time of SPD, especially from NT 6 to NT 22 . Humin fraction predominance was observed, with movement of HA and FA in the 0.0-0.4 m soil depth. The oxidizable C fractions showed equilibrium in the distribution of C contents, with higher levels in the more labile fractions, at surface. The cultivation with succession of crops contributes to the increase in labile fractions, but not to the increase of the more recalcitrant fractions of C.
In conservation management systems, such as no-till (NT), it is important to analyze the pattern of changes in soil quality as a function of the time since adoption of the system. This study evaluated the physical fractions of organic matter and soil aggregation in management systems in areas cultivated with different times since implementation of NT: 6, 14, and 22 successive years of soybean and maize/wheat crops (NT6, NT14, and NT22, respectively); 12 years of no-till with successive years of soybean and maize/wheat crops, and the last 4 years with integration of maize and ruzi grass (Brachiaria ruziziensis) - (NT+B); pasture; and forest. Physical fractionation of organic matter determined the total carbon (TC), particulate organic matter (POM), and mineral organic matter (MOM) by calculating the carbon management index (CMI) and variables related to soil structural stability. Forest and pasture areas showed the highest contents of TC, POM, and MOM, as well as higher stocks of POM and MOM. Among the cultivated areas, higher TC and particulate fractions of organic matter and the best CMI values were observed in the area of NT22. There were changes in aggregation indices, depending on the time since implementation of NT. Areas of NT22, pasture, and forest showed the greatest evolution in C-CO2, indicating increased biological activity, with positive effects on soil structural stability.
The purpose of this review was to characterize the wheat crop phenology under drought conditions, at different stages of crop growth. Effects of drought on wheat plants are variable, and depend on the phenological stage of the plant as well as the duration, intensity and frequency of the drought. The crop evapotranspiration increases over the course of the phenological cycle, reaching a maximum in the growth stage (from the beginning of heading until the end of flowering), which is the most sensitive stage of the crop to drought. At ripening, the evapotranspiration decreases to save and allocate the energy to grain yield. The drought affects the plant density in the initial phase, tiller number per plant in the tillering phase, and plant height in the stretching phase, most severely. At the flowering stage, the processes related to fertilization and fixation of grain are most severely affected, i.e., the number of viable seeds per area decreases. In the grain formation stage, the ability of the source (leaf) to use and translocate the assimilates to the grain is most severely affected, thus affecting the grain weight.
Termos para indexação: germinação, reguladores, triadimenol, Azospirillum sp., T. aestivum L.Physiological quality of seeds of three wheat cultivars for different treatments ABSTRACT -The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological quality of wheat seed treated with plant growth regulators, triadimenol and Azospirillum brasilense. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications in a 3x8factorial: three wheat cultivars and eight seed treatments. The cultivars used were CD-150, CD-116 and CD-104, and the treatments were a combination of three different substances: 150 g.L -1 triadimenol (TRI), 90 mg.L -1 kinetin + 50 mg.L -1 giberellic acid + 50 mg.L -1 indolebutyric acid (CGA) and strains Ab-V5 and Ab-V6 of A. brasilense at a concentration of 2.0 x 10 8 viable cells mL -1 (AZO), as follows: control, TRI, CGA, AZO, TRI+CGA, TRI+AZO, AZO+CGA and TRI+CGA+AZO. Germination and abnormal seedlings (%), shoot and hypocotyl length and the diameter, length and number of roots, dry weight of shoot and root/shoot were determined. The results showed that: the treatments did not affect seed germination; the treatments did not increases the early development of wheat seedlings and triadimenol alone or in combination with A. brasilense plant growth regulator resulted in lower values for shoot, root and hypocotyl length and root number for all the cultivars.
The objective of this study was evaluate the organic carbon stock and chemical and physical properties of soils in management systems with different deployment times under clayey Red Latosol in western region of Paraná, Brazil. Five managed areas and a reference area (native forest) without anthropic action were analyzed in completely randomized design with five repetitions. Management systems include three areas with different time of first adoption of no-till: 6 years -NT 6 (transition phase), 14 years -NT 14 (consolidation phase) and 22 years -NT 22 (maintenance phase); 16 years of no-till, and in the last four years with integration of maize and ruzigrass (Brachiaria ruziziensis) -(NT+B) and an area of permanent and continuous extensive cattle pasture of coast-cross (Cynodon dactylon) -(Pa). Physical and chemical properties, total soil organic carbon (TOC) stock and carbon stratification index (SI) of soils were evaluated in depths of 0-0.05; 0.05-0.10; 0.10-0.20 and 0.20-0.40 m. The macroporosity (MA) was higher in the area of native forest, ranging from 0.23 to 0.30 m 3 m -3 and the microporosity (MI) was higher in cultivated areas. The areas of NT+B and P presented lower ratio macroporosity/total pore volume (MA/TPV). For soil bulk density (BD) and soil penetration resistance (SPR), the managed areas show higher values, suggesting the occurrence of compacted subsurface layers. Native forest area showed the highest TOC levels in the depths of 0-0.05 and 0.05-0.10 m, reaching 30.5 g kg -1 in the 0-0.05 m soil layer. There was negative change on TOC stocks in the managed areas in relation to forest area, being more evident in the more superficial soil layers. The SI was greater than one, however there is a reduction in function of adoption time of no-till. There was higher soil compaction in the managed areas, and the NT in soybean/maize succession system does not contribute effectively to the increase of TOC stocks.
An improvement in soil chemical properties and crop development with silicate application has been confirmed in several plant species. The effects of silicate application on soil chemical properties and wheat growth were investigated in the present study. The experiment was carried out in 8-L plastic pots in a greenhouse. Treatments were arranged in a randomized block design in a 3 × 5 factorial: three soils [Rhodic Acrudox (Ox1) ) and Al 3+ phytotoxic; and increases the soil pH, available Ca, Mg and Si, cation exchange capacity (CEC) and soil base saturation. Silicate application did not affect the available P, exchangeable K and availability of micronutrients (Cu, Zn, Fe and Mn) in the three soils. The application of calcium/magnesium silicate in an acid clayey Rhodic Hapludox improves the development and yield of wheat; however, the silicate application in soil with pH higher to 5.3 and high Si availability does not affect the agronomic characteristics and grain yield of wheat.
