Resumo: O artigo analisa os posicionamentos editoriais da grande imprensa escrita brasileira, representada pelos jornais de maior circulação diária no Brasil (Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado de S. Paulo e O Globo), diante da trajetória da Venezuela no Mercado Comum do Sul (MERCOSUL), entre 2006 e 2017. A análise tem como fim elucidar em que medida estes veículos atuaram como um agente de contrapoder (ou watchdog) diante do posicionamento oficial dos governos em dois processos políticos-chave, que foram a adesão venezuelana e, posteriormente, a imposição de sanções contra o país. O artigo se vale de premissas e conceitos-chave da Análise do Discurso Francesa, como o interdiscurso, que dota a linguagem de significado à luz das relações de aliança e conflito que os discursos estabelecem entre si. É sob esta perspectiva que a análise concluiu que "O Estado de S. Paulo" e "O Globo" não impuseram discurso pautado pelo contrapoder, tendo alternativamente se filiado à corrente ideológica adepta dos princípios do regionalismo aberto. A "Folha de S. Paulo", por sua vez, apresentou um padrão de posicionamento distinto ao se manter fiel ao regionalismo aberto, ao mesmo tempo em que mobilizou seus elementos para se opor ao governismo, nos dois momentos analisados da trajetória venezuelana pelo MERCOSUL.
The article analyzes the newspapers endorsements in the US in the 2016 presidential election and, in particular, the massive rejection of the Republican nominee Donald Trump. It is argued that it was due to Trump's non-belonging to mainstream politics and the press tendency to centrism.
