As plantas medicinais vêm sendo mais utilizadas devidos às suas propriedades preventivas, paliativas e curativas, além de ser uma terapia diferente, trazendo inúmeros benefícios aos usuários. A Punica granatum Linn pertence a família Lythracaceae, sendo popularmente conhecida como “Romã”. Em forma de colutório a romã pode demonstrar eficácia sobre diversos microorganismos formadores do biofilme dental, além de ajudar na redução do sangramento gengival. A Lippia sidoides Cham pertence à família Verbenaceae, popularmente conhecida como “Alecrim-pimenta”. Seu uso tem mostrado uma alta atividade antimicrobiana contra fungos e bactérias, incluindo espécies do gênero Streptococcus mutans, como, também, a redução da gengivite e placa bacteriana. As Mikania glomerata e a Mikania laevegata, pertencem a mesma família Asteraceae e são popularmente conhecidas como “Guaco” e possuem atividade antimicrobiana sobre o Streptococcus mutans. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o uso de fitoterápicos na Odontologia, em especial quanto à atividade microbiana das plantas Punica, Lippia e Mikania, as propriedades farmacológicas dessas e sua atuação sobre o biofilme dental. Trata-se de uma revisão literária do tipo narrativa, onde foi realizada uma seleção de trabalhos científicos já elaborados sobre os aspectos das propriedades farmacológicas da Mikania glomerata, Mikana laevigata, Punica granatum Linn. e da Lippia sidoides Cham, através das bases de dados: LILACS, SciELO, MEDLINE, BVS, além de monografias, teses, dissertações e livros. Foi visto na literatura que todas as plantas pesquisadas possuem efeito sobre o biofilme dental quando em baixa concentração e de acordo com suas propriedades químicas e fitoterápicas.
Um problema comumente encontrado, tanto pelo o cirurgião quanto pelo ortodontista, durante o tracionamento de dentes inclusos, é a dificuldade em realizar a fixação e manutenção de acessórios ortodônticos no dente, visto que este é geralmente um ambiente úmido devido à presença de fluidos bucais. Sendo assim, o propósito desse estudo foi realizar uma revisão de literatura do tipo narrativa sobre o padrão de descolagem de dispositivos ortodônticos, aderidos ao elemento dentário com sistemas adesivos hidrofílicos e hidrofóbicos. Para tanto, foi realizada uma busca nas bases de dados Scielo, PubMed, Google Scholar e Portal BVS entre os anos de 2008 e 2021 sendo em português, inglês ou espanhol. Foi avaliado o tipo de fratura proveniente de testes mecânicos, que posteriormente foram analisados em microscopia óptica. Depois de aplicados os critérios de inclusão e exclusão, nove artigos foram selecionados, os quais apresentaram um maior percentual de falhas adesivas. Portanto os adesivos pesquisados podem ser utilizados na colagem de bráquetes, tanto em meio úmido como seco, pois possuem força de resistência de união suficiente para ser um adesivo ortodôntico.
Tendo em vista a problemática existente nos procedimentos de tracionamento ortodôntico de dentes impactados quanto a fixação e manutenção das peças ortodônticas ao elemento dentário, tendo em vista as peculiaridades do meio bucal, considerando isso, o objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar, por meio da revisão da literatura, a adesão de dispositivos ortodônticos utilizando adesivo hidrofílico Transbond™ Plus Color Change 3M e adesivos à base de cianoacrilato. No presente trabalho foi utilizado o método de revisão de literatura com o tema Adesão de dispositivos ortodônticos utilizando adesivo hidrofílico Transbond™ Plus Color Change 3M e adesivos à base de cianoacrilato. Assim sendo, foi realizada uma busca nas bases de dados MEDLINE, Portal BVS, Scielo e LILACS, entre os anos de 2012 e 2021 sendo em português, inglês ou espanhol. Logos após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, doze artigos foram selecionados. A partir disso, pode-se concluir que a força de adesão de dispositivos ortodônticos utilizando adesivo hidrofílico Transbond™ Plus Color Change 3M e adesivos à base de cianoacrilato variaram nos estudos, o que é possível ser justificado pelas diferenças metodológicas observadas nestes.
